This thread is an information sharing thread for individuals taking the CAM (century a month) Challenge in 2007.

PLEASE, DO NOT REPLY TO POSTS OR POST ANYTHING OTHER THAN YOUR DATA.

If, when reading this thread, you wish to comment on someone's data, please either PM that member, or alternatively, start a new thread entitled Data Discussion for ____ Ride (or something like that - title your thread as you wish). But most of the rides will be discussed in either the original ride threads or subsequent ride report threads. However, a member may do a ride that hasn't been discussed or for which there is no ride report. So, discussion is great! Just please, NOT in this thread. Thank you for helping out with this...:)

Now, as stated in the original CAM thread - please post the data for your century/month as follows:

Date of Ride:
Type of Ride: (group ride or solo ride)
Name of organized ride or route:
Actual Mileage:
Ride Time:
Total Time:
Avg. Speed:
Altitude Climbed: (if available, either by route map, or cycling computer)
Weather conditions:
Synopsis of Ride: (please be respectful as you never know who might read this)

(Remember, even if you don't make all twelve, please still post your data for as many months as you can - all centuries are an accomplishment! So, although this is a challenge, it is in the spirit of camaraderie!) Also, for those who are just crazy enough (like me) to ride more than one century per month, please give us data on those too if you'd like.

Below is the official list that will be updated. If you do not see your name or century months updated, please PM me, and I will update your info. Thank you!

Actual Mileage:101
Ride Time:7.5 approx.
Total Time: 8.5
Avg. Speed: 14
Altitude Climbed: 4300
Weather conditions: 30 degree low/42 degree high/overcast for 50 miles/light sun in the afternoon/very cold with some headwinds
Synopsis of Ride: Very cold but overall a good solid ride. I experienced knee pain from the cold, but no other issue. My pace was reduced and this was more for training. I had wonderful BF rider friends for company which helped with the cold part. The desert is nice, but without sun way too cold! I thought the food at the rest stops were fine (PB&Js, pretzels, red vines, hammer gels, fig newtons and Heed). Lunch stop was great with sandwiches or chili (which I can't eat and ride), chips, cookies and the sweetest volunteers. SAG vehicles were everywhere and the small town locals of Ocotillo really came out for this ride. I've done it twice now and will doubtfully ride it again, but I would recommend it. Just not in the cold like this year!

Weather conditions: Cloudy, cold

Synopsis of the ride: Out and back ride starting in Ocotillo. I lost feeling in my feet from 6:30 am until 1:30 pm. The ride was a little unorganized at the start but was made fun by the Bikeforums members that I saw and rode with.

Date of Ride:January 1, 2007
Type of Ride: Group Name of organized ride or route: The New Years Revolution Ride
Actual Mileage: 100.3
Ride Time:6.55
Total Time:7.35
Avg. Speed: 17
Weather: 25 degrees. COLD / FREEZING / NUMB / WINDY
Altitude Climbed: Flat -- so no climbing :(
Synopsis of Ride: This ride was put on by BIKE 2 BIKE (UTAH) and the ride was actually held in Avondale Arizona. They had 2 Centuries back to back. One on New Years Eve and then this one on New Years Day. The first century didn't have many participants. Perhaps the weather, perhaps because it was New Years Eve, not sure. The group that put the ride together was wonderful. The second day there were many more people. They had some mobile rest stops :) After the last person left rest stop one, the Van/ Livery Truck ( actually looked like trucks that sell lunch to the construction men ). Anyhow the truck would drive to the next rest stop. It was hilarious but efficient. One of the rest stops which was stationary was actually on a runway of an airport. Another rest stop was in the left turning lane of a housing development that was being built. The models were up but not much traffic there. But once again kinda funny being in the left turning lane and all. The streets were LONG and not much scenery. It was WINDY too..headwinds at every turn it seemed like.....add that to the sub freezing temps. Eventhough the climate wasn't that great it was fun after about hour 2. There was very little traffic, and I mean very little. The volunteers were amazing. The riders were GREAT !!!!
This was the first New Years Revolution put on by the Bike 2 Bike Org. so I am sure it will get more popular.

Weather conditions: COLD, COLD AGAIN, AND OF COURSE WINDY, then warm. Approx 26 degrees - 56
Synopsis of Ride: Where should I begin....Arizona was FREEZING in the morning. It took all I had to get out of the truck. There isn't much scenery and all the roads are LONG. Nothing on either side. Except maybe a cow or two. The ride is well supported and the food is fantastic. There were alot of riders there from California and Nevada :) which made it fun. All in All it was a great ride and I will do it again. Oh and did I mention they had cake?

Synopsis of Ride: Good ride, SAG everywhere you turn, Good food ( which is important ) and I met lots of good people. Eventhough it was unbelievably cold AGAIN I liked the ride. The lunch stop was where I went wrong. I went in had some fantastic chili and then hung out by the heater for 20 minutes to thaw out. Well when I got back on my bike I thought my limbs were just going to freeze and fall off. Bad idea to hang out by a furnace and then go outside in the cold :) won't do that again...Well I probably will. The downhills were fantastic....

Synopsis of Ride: Started in Santa Paula with LA Baby, my wife and myself. Rode to Ventura then on to Summerland, had a great brunch at Summerland Cafe. One of the reasons for the long total time. Then rode same route back to Santa Paula. My wife stopped there, loaded her bike and drove home, she was having fit issues that were causing her a lot of pain. LA Baby and I continued on to the merge of the Hwy 126 & the 5, where it was getting dark and my wife picked us up. Haven't ridden enough the last couple of months and it definitely showed today.

I decided to take a calculated risk and head off into the morning air. Started in Westlake Village, stopped by my office and picked up some paperwork. Ran numerous errands from the West San Fernando Valley to the East part ofthe valley. Saw the north and south parts too. Back home with some route deviations to up my mileage and I am at 101.7 miles. Synopsis of Ride: As many of you know I rode this ride when I should have been home in bed, but my love for the sport and my friends, overcame my health concerns. I'm glad I did this ride, the roads were much better than they were in the past. Food was still great. I have finished this ride in 6 hours before, today being sick my goal was 15.0 avg speed, and to finish in under 7 hrs. Both goals were met.

Name of organized ride or route: Tour de Palm Springs

Ride Time: Have no idea
Total Time: Have no idea - was having too much fun
Avg. Speed: 15
Altitude Climbed: unknown
Weather conditions: Slightly chilly in the early hour. Warmed up quickly and the weather ended up being perfect.
Synopsis of Ride: I really liked this ride. The company was superb as I have said over and over again. And for me that's what makes a ride great. That and the food of course :)
My husband was back by 11:30 so he had to wait a minute or two for me :)
I missed the group for the post ride meal at the Mexican restaurant. Since we only live an hour away we didn't change our clothes. We just went straight there and the food was fabulous. We waited for M.E's call but it never came because that silver thing in the back pocket of my jersey was my camera not my cellphone :( Catch you guys next time. Whoever suggested the restaurant A+++++ thanks.

Name of organized ride or route: Oceanside, Valley Center, Palomar Mt.
Actual Mileage: 101.89
Ride Time: 08:09
Total Time: 10:04
Avg. Speed: 12.4
Altitude Climbed: (if available, either by route map, or cycling computer): N/A
Weather conditions: Sunny and warm, 60s and 70s, light winds
Synopsis of Ride: Toughest century I've ever done. Only went to the general store. Felt fine but had a hard time climbing.
Good: weather
Bad: I wore a race cut jersey that was real stretchy. With all the stuff in my pockets (gels, bars, vest, warmers, camera, xtra tube, pump, ID and pictures) it hung so low that it hooked on the saddle when I would stand.
Could have been bad: Wearing my vest unzipped, I hooked an oleander branch and it started to spin me off the bike. Luckily it let go or broke.

Date of Ride: 2/24/07
Type of Ride: Non-organized
Name of Ride: The Taquito Centrury
Participants: Mel44, Mateo44
Mileage: 101.2
Route: Follows the Burrito Century route, but ends in Solana Beach instead of downtown San Diego. Irvine Amtrak (start), Bake Parkway, Margarite Parkway, Junipero Serra, PCH, Camp Pendleton, PCH through Oceanside and Carlsbad to Solana Beach Amtrak (end). Tedious repetition of segments of PCH at end to get to 100 miles.
Weather: Non-remarkable. Mid-60s. A bit gusty in afternoon. Clear. Bit cold (low-40s) at start.
Bad: Not planning the entire route first; ad-libbing at end to get to mileage goal is a pain in the ass. Detours through unknown neighborhoods to add miles slowed us down considerably. Weekend traffic seemed particuarly thick in beach towns (e.g., Oceaniside), drivers especially high strung and haughty.
Good: Amtrak gets high marks from us, again. Train exacly on time, and virtually empty.

THE SCENERY WAS BEAUTIFUL. IF YOU'VE NEVER BEEN TO ZION IN UTAH YOU SHOULD GO. THERE WERE TONS OF PEOPLE FROM VEGAS AND CALIFORNIA THERE. LONG CLIMBS WITH HEADWINDS ALL DAY LONG. AFTER LUNCH WE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE SMOOTH SAILING BUT WRONG AGAIN...WIND DIRECTION CHANGED....I WOULD DEFINITELY DO THIS RIDE AGAIN AND THE ORGANIZATION THAT PUT IT ON IS FANTASTIC. I GIVE IT A 4 OUT OF 5.
