I don't think that it's all that it's hyped up to be.

Anyone agree?

Any online knowledge?

I don't follow specific cadence training but will use heart rate training when I am into a serious periodization schedule. Right now I am being lazy and just riding for fun.

I do however use cadence when riding longer distance to conserve muscle power for hard efforts when required. High cadence will use the cardio system more and conserve muscle power.

I don't follow a cadence...it is very difficult to do in technical terrain. In between my trails I stick to a certain cadence, but that is one which offers me the most confort vs speed possible :)

has the southern california sun baked your noodle son?

what kind of riding are you applying this principle to?
are you pushing your limits with every ride 5-7 times a week?

there is a criticism of riders who go too hard on their easy days and too easy on their hard days. i find a higher probability of injury if i push it each time out. my greatest advances came when i did base miles and eased back to below that 85% maxHR mark. that allowed me to stay focused mentally and physically. when i pushed it and went as fast as i could go for as long as i could go...i was always on the brink of exhaustion (again mentally and physically)

I agree, kind of. I find it ridculous seeing a guy spinning the same cadance as I am but I would be doing 24 mph while this person is going no faster than 18 mph. Cadence is good if you train to spin on the BIG RING. BIG RING. Not small ring. You use it on hills. BIG RING and SPINNING == SPEED. Just because you can spin at 100 rpm on a small ring it does not mean you are fast. :D I am a BIG GEAR guy. I weight no more than 130 lb but I love to climb small rolling hills with BIG GEAR. It feels and looks just BADASS.
