Foo - What did you name your bike(s)?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Don't laugh. Most of us here have named our bikes. :)
Please tell us the name and what makes you call it that.
(If we already have a thread like this in Foo, I wish for the mods to delete this one.)
Haha, cool topic idea siu. :)
Look down at my sig.
From left to right.
Spitfire-Named it this because it just came to my mind while I was putting a spitfire sticker onto my frame. I used to only skate on spitfire wheels, and I had tons of falls while on spitfire wheels. I just love spitfire wheels.
jonah- this was what my cousins, and brothers, and friends called me when I was younger. They also called me jonabonedonafona and stupid crap like that. Lately no one calls me it anymore, so I'm thinking of changing the name
jodie-The first girl I ever liked was named jodie, I love this name it's very pretty, plus a bfer I really like is named this, so I named it after her.

My Raleigh is "Sir Walter"
The passage is "Wanderer"
My MTB/Commuter is "Rolls Canardly" (It's a cheap old Royce Union, and can 'ardly get any attention from thieves!:D )

But wait!! What made you guys choose these names?
Tom Stormcrowe
01-16-07, 05:38 PM
Well, the Raleigh should be obvious, the Schwinn Passage is a touring bike and I use it to wander all over the place, and the Rolls Canardly (Royce Union) rolls down the road and can 'ardly get a second look!

I only have one, so I don't really need a name for it, and even if I did, I'm horrible at coming up with names, so it's just "my bike."

Sounds like you just named your bike! It makes it more yours, by the way, to name it! Acknowledges that it has a personality unique to it and places it in a treasured place in the heart.

Yeah, that's about the size of it. I occasionally get formal and say Litespeed or Epic. Boring, huh?

I call my 1967 Schwinn Paramount "the Paramount." I call my Lemond Zurich "the Lemond." I call my Trek 520 "the Trek" or, sometimes, "the touring bike." I call my Burley Bossa Nova "the tandem." What can I say, I have no imagination. :o

Well, let's see:
The Raleigh 3-Speed is Miss Moneypenny named for the prim British Secretary in the James Bond Movies.
I named the fancy titanium road bike the Stealth Diva after I stripped all of the decals off.
The 80s lugged steel road bike is the Ave' Maria, named after the heroine in the novel Big Stone Gap.
The 80s touring bike is the King of the Road, because it's mastered every kind of road and terrain imaginable over the past 23 years.
The Cannondale Bad Boy Ultra is the Bad Boy Ultra because I couldn't think of a better name for a mid-life crisis bike.
The grey beater with the jacked up handlebars is the Bad Back Beater because its forgiving set-up helped me beat a bad back.
The folding bike is the Duke of Orange, because, um, it's orange.
As I look at this post I realize that maybe I really am nuts. Oh well.

I forwarded your question to the Paramount (a neat pice of telepathy, since I'm at the office :( ) and it said - and this is a direct quote - "Oh, baby. For you, Siu, any time, any place, and don't worry about the fingerprints." And I'm okay with that. Really. I won't get jealous. Well, not that jealous. No, really, it's okay . . .

My bf is the one that started me naming bikes. I used to ride horses and now bikes are sort of a replacement for horses and naming them seems right.
Ruffian is my black Surly Pacer. It's named after a favorite race horse from the 1970s. It's not tall and fast like the real horse was, but I haven't thought of anothr name since.
Camion is my LHT. It's named after a horse I knew. It also means truck in french. It's the green LHT, and once on a long slow climb I started calling the bike Turtle. Turtle is a character in a book, a little girl in The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver.
Skitters is my Rockhound mtn bike. It skitters all over the trail.
Morgan is my Novara commuter bike. It's a touring frame that takes 26" wheels. It's a very versatile bike as it can be set up like a mtn touring bike or a road touring bike. The Morgan horse is a very versatile breed of horse, that's where I got the name.
Previous bikes I've had:
Greene was a rainforest green 2002 Trek 520. It was not named because of the color! It was named after the bike the author rode in Where the Pavement Ends (Erice W? rode her bike across Mongolia). She spray painted grey over the green bike to uglify it for her trip.
Sequoia was a 2003 Novara Safari. I named it after a llama I packed with in the mtns of WY one summer.
Fiddlesticks was/is a early 90s Giant Rincon mtn bike. It was named after another llama I worked with in the mtns of Wyoming. This bike is now owned by some friends of ours. They still use this bike quite a bit!
My bf's bikes include:
Planet Express, his 2006 Surly Crosscheck. Nmaed after the ship on Futurama.
Ferric is his 2003 Gunnar Roadie. It's a steel bike, Fe3+ is ferric.
Redox is his Trek 970 commuter. It's a commuter, it can get rusty.
Entropy was his Trek 7000.
Kelvin was his blue Klein Attitude.
Inertia was his 2003 Trek 520.
He likes to name his bikes after chemical or physical properties.

My blue and silver mountain bike is named "the blue and silver mountain bike"
the green commuter bike is named "the green commuter bike"
the white schwinn crosscut is named "the white bike"
And that is about as complicated as I allow things to get around my household

I have names for some of my bikes. I tend to name them for horses (which I'm terrified of incidentally).
Gold Raleigh SuperCourse - Cyclone (it has SunTour cyclone derailleurs)
White Fuji "The Finest" - Phantom (Zorro's white horse)
White Raleigh Professional - Shadowfax (Gandalf's white horse)
Black J.A. Holland (she's at least as old as me) - Tornado (Zorro's black horse)
Blue Miyata 210 - Dreamer (seems a reasonable name for a blue horse :p)
Green Raleigh Superbe 3-speed - Charger (she's as heavy as a knight's horse with full barding)
Black Trek 830 - Fury (another famous black horse)
There are plenty of other good horse names left, so I guess I need more bikes. :D

While I don't have names for them...I feel that each one has it's own personality...it's own "feel" to it. My blue 5200 is the bike I get on when I need confidence, or have had a string of sub par rides...I'm always faster on that bike. Always. They each mean something different to me when I look at them. But I don't have names for them other than the models/years.
"Red" and "Blackie". I'm not very imaginative.

Since when has the Darkside ever had more people?
STar Wars 1-3.
Up till the end there was like a million more good guys then people on the dark side.
Even in 4-6 there was like 2 dark side to 5 light side.

I call my mountain bike "The mountain Bike"
I call my Flyte "The Blue one"
I call my Scattante "The silver one"
I call my K2 Mach 2 "The K2"
Not very original huh? Let me think, I will name them right now.
I will now call the mountain bike "Joey bag of donuts"
The Flyte will be called "Maximus"
The Scattante will be "Dry Heave"
The K2 will be "Mr Pickles"
I feel better now.
I pretty much name everything, so of course I have names for my bikes.
My hardtail's name is Choco, which is short for Chocobo, which is a mode of transportation in the Final Fantasy series of games.
See the resemblance?

And the FS is named Flammie because the color is flame red. Flammie is also the name of the white dragon you ride in Secret of Mana :)
Whee!
