I don't actually have a recumbant, I have a fixed gear airnimal chameleon in 24" wheels (click here for details and pics) (http://www.foldsoc.co.uk/Mike/fixed_airnimal.html). I am after some faster 24" rims for it and thought that recumbent riders were the people to ask.
I have seen some nice 24" rims from velocity and as my bike is fixed gear, I could use a lighter disc specific rim without a braking surface at the back (like the aeroheat rims used on the thracian disc wheelset (http://www.velocitywheels.com/default.asp?contentID=535) - they don't have a weight for the rims on their site, but if you compare the hubs and the wheel weights, the disc rim seems to be 150g lighter). I have also seen some funky wheels from HED, but they don't seem all that great when I read reviews about them. I would be interestd in some Zipp or other aero-type wheels, but I don't think they come in 24". Spinergy make some wheel chair rims in 24" size, but I am not sure how compatible they would be.
My main concern is acceleration as I only ride in the city but, often I spend longs periods crusing through traffic at over 20mph so I think aerodynamics could also be important. There are often terrible gusts of wind on the routes I take, so I would not be up for a carbon disk wheel, but a 3 or 4 spoke might be ok.
