Mountain Biking - Suggestion for MTB wheels

Any suggestions for cheap but , strong, light and reliable mtb wheels? They will be used for XC and Trail Riding. I was thinking XT hubs on 517 rims or Sun XC rims. I belive i could build them fairly cheap also. I was also going to see how much I could get king hubs for an Hugi 240. Any knowldge on those hubs? Thanks

Why not get a Sun wheelset with Ringle hubs? They're indestructable and ridiculously easy to service (though a bit heavy). King hubs are nice, but I use the Ringles as they are cheaper and I've found 'em to be more durable (couple other guys at our shop got CK hubs after I got my Ringles and they've already had to rebuild theirs-mine are fine). Hugis are nice and light but don't radial lace the front-they say you're not supposed to and that's for a good reason-the flange can't take the loading.

I would use the XT hubs and use X221 Mavic rims. That makes for a fairly cheap and reliable and durable wheelset for trails and XC riding.
Good all around wheelset IMO. Make them even lighter and use the DT Revolution spokes.

I'm running Rhynolites on XT's and I've had no problems.

I've heard good things about the XT/Rhynolite combo.

You could get Mavic Crossrocs and have the tubeless option.I haveseen several out there and they are holding up fine.
The fiveseventeens are stronger than the 221s. Fivenineteens stronger still. Worth the price difference.
For the money Shimano hubs are hard to beat. For the cost of one King hub you could build a complete Shimano/Mavic set.
I have two sets of Kings in use, road and mountian, with no problems. Built the first about three years ago. Salt and pepper shakers work pretty good too.

Good to know the shakers work well. I keep hoping someone will get them for me as a gift but it hasn't happened yet.
Chuck makes a good point-you can save a lot of money with Shimano hubs vs. Kings. Not quite as sexy but they're darn good hubs.
