I want to get into BMX and i was thinking about buying a dk 8pack, but i recently found a gt by a dumpster. It looks like everything on it is a stock gt part. The cranks are TORQ BFC-09's, and the rear rim is an ALEX X-Rim G303. 20 inch. the front is some no name rusted piece. I am probably going to replace the rims, chain, and stem. Is there anything else i need to revamp? I put oury grips and an odyssey mini seat on it. The original color of the bike was blue, but someone painted it white then black i beleive. I just want to know if the new set of wheels would be worth it. Pic is attached.

Looks fine to me. I'd either hook up that brake or take it off though.

Yeah ill probably end up hooking it up. Seeing as i am not a confident rider yet, and im trying to ride dirt not street or vert.

Wow thats really cool! I like the bars, i love white bars on black frame. It looks pretty good, for dirt you should fix the brakes. Good Luck. I wish i found a bike by a dumpster :)

Edit: Lower the seat!

Move your bars back, so they are inline with the fork, or around there. And lower that seat, alot. Slam it if you don't use it much. If it won't go far down you can cut the post. Alot of people cut theres to around 3 inches long, even shorter most of the time. That bike will be really good for learning, with a few upgrades. New wheels being the main thing. But other then that I'd just replace stuff as it breaks. The stem is fine, and the chain probably is too, unless it has alot of rust, but it dosen't look like it. Depending on your budget I'd try and pick up a rear wheel with a cassette hub, and buy a new sprocket. You could go down to 33 - 12, 30 - 11, or 28 - 10, or even 25 - 9 if you'd like. But if you can't afford that, try to at least pick up one with a flip - flop hub so you can run an odyssey 13t freewheel, and bring the sprocket down to 36t, or 33t if you like an easyer gearing. Also, I learned on a brakeless bike.

Its a matter of opinion where the seat and bars are.

Name one reason why you'd want your bars that far forward, or in your lap, for that matter. One.

I agree, this guy at the skatepark told me like inline with your fork your handlebars should be

I just ordered a pair of alex rims laced to joy tech hubs(flip flop rear) or something like that with a 16tooth cog. They came with tiogaIII tires. The next thing i will buy is a pair of bars, the current ones were cut off and are too narrow for me.

1. I only said that because i knew what your response would be.(just to get a rise out of you.)
2. Different size riders.
3. Different riding styles.

If you NEED to run your bars forward, the bike is to small.

Or your just cruising to school.

Agreed. That wheel really sucks. You should have gotten your own custom wheel and paid a bit more for something a lot better.
