hey, normally i let bygones be bygones, but why was the 'men, how do you pee?' (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=261663) thread locked?

i'd like to know which mod was so prudish that they felt threatened by it?

I was feeling the same botto. That was a clean thread for the most part. I guess whoever closed it does not want to work with me for the day unless vulgar language and sight of body parts offends you.

Geeeez, I didn't even get to respond to why I do it the way I do.:D

Silently closing threads, pretending to be insulted over nothing and sending resulting threatenings PMs

I got to agree. I'd have kept it open. I don't think you guys were out of hand. Trust me, I'd blow the whistle if I thought necessary.

Not really...............you see and as I figure it. We have x amount of moderators (really unsure). And it only takes one's judgement as to what is offensive without a vote from what I see. So one out of 20 mods. could be offended and the others say.....it's okay and it still could be closed.

maybe a mod had a tinkling of a feeling that the thread might turn into a puddle of regret.

We would all have to mop up the splatter, and the foo whizz-ards would be very sad, as suddenly our perfect urinals have to have little flys painted into them to rmindus wherre to aim.

because of the owners of the servers have limits on what can and can not be posted.
because we are a "Family" oriented site, and I know I wouldn't want my 13 year old
(who is now 25) reading some of the stuff I've seen here.

Is this just since the server move last week?

Are the new owners the Church of Jesus Christ and the Latter Day Saints?

Can you tell me why I was banned when the person who posted the picture that was the subject of the complaint wasn't (especially when I didn't posted anything offensive in the first place)?

Is this pretty much what we can expect from now on?

Nope, it's the same there. The real action used to be in A&S, but I don't know whether they've been hit as well.

Well, what lotek was trying to gently get across is that because this site is based in the United States, there is a law which requires that persons under the age of thirteen be treated differently than those age 13 and older.

It is necessary to get parental permission for children under the age of 13. A site owner who neglects his or her duty to get parental permission for these underage person may face large fines.

"Ostensibly because of the cost incurred in complying with the regulation, one of COPPA's largest impacts was to cause a number of websites that catered to children to shut down entirely. A number of other general-audience websites stopped offering services to children at all."

This is by definition a family friendly site. Threads aren't locked and pictures/photos removed because some of the mods are 'prudes'. It's because it's the law. Joe has no desire to get in trouble, and I am certain that none of you would wish to see this site disappear, knowing that something you post could get Joe in trouble.

England has a similar law. Indeed, I believe it is stricter.

But the USA has the 1st amendment which guarantees the right of free speech. Isn't that contrary to the regulation you just cited?

Britain is not comparable as they don't even have a written constitution and they have very strict libel laws, though they don't tend be prudish like other countries are ie USA, Australia etc. I doubt whether Britain has laws regarding content (except pornography) as the newspaper I read has no problems using the F-word or the C-word if it's appropriate. The TV channels here certainly have no problem with nudity.

How many under 13 year olds access this site? I can imagine there might be a few in BMX but virtually nowhere else.

I do know that I got banned by mistake once, because a moderator thought I was a spammer, so perhaps someone mistook you for the person responsible for posting whatever was objectionable?

I don't really care to get into politics, but this is the "Age of Terrorism". The president of the United States has decided that he can do whatever he wants as long as he signs a statement declaring that he has exempted himself from the law.

Websites based in England still have to decide if the content is appropriate for children. They are allowed more latitude in the age, however, at least as far as I understand it.

You'd be surprised. Take a look at the SoCal regional forum, for example.

And since this is wandering into politics, I tip my hat, and bid adieu .

I did that to a member once. Accidentally banned the person that reported a spammer instead of the spammer being reported. They were banned about one minute before I realized what I did. I quickly sent an e-mail letting them know what had happened and that I messed up. :o

All this arguing about what is appropriate and why doesnt make a damn bit of difference. It is a privately owned forum and the owners can do as they damn well please. The owner has put his trust in the mods to do as they see fit. wether you think its right or not is irrelevent. I have said this before and I will say it again. 'Twas not you who banned me, and it lasted over three days. The story disappeared in the Great Purge of about a month ago.

Part of the problem was that there was, and still is, NO WAY to contact an administrator or moderator if a person is banned, except by violating the TOS and registering under a new identity.

Closing Thread. Foo is not a complaining forum for individuals that have or had problems with a MOD in the present or past.

If you have issues with something please take it directly to a mod so that the issue can be reviewed.

I really didn't want to wade into this quagmire but what the hell.

No, the server isn't owned by any church as far as I know, I do know that
Joe has stated before that he has pretty strict rules for what is and what
isn't allowed on the servers (this was a while ago, may have changed).

We ask any member under 13 years old to unregister and come back when
they do reach the age of 13, we also as a matter of course ban that username until
said user becomes 13.

while we in the U.S. do enjoy freedom of speech, this forum is a private institution, the owner
has the right to allow or disallow whatever he likes.

ok, enough said

Actually, I think you were given 48 hours for praticipating in a thread where the discussion centered on another member's "member", and suggestions for enhancing the size of the member in question.

If someone posted "Ziemas has a small dick?" in a thread about penis pumps, they'd get the same vacation.
