Road Cycling - What is in your water bottle/camelbak?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just wondering what everyone else is using?

I usually have some watered down Gatorade... about 40/60 on hot days... and just Icewater on the rest of them.

On my roadies I usually carry a bottle of water on the downtube and a bottle of sports drink on the seat tube. The exact configuration and the size of the bottles depends on the length of the ride.

On my mountain bikes, I generally carry a camelbak of water and a bottle of sports drink on the frame.

Water in the Camel Back when I use it. It would be too much to clean with anything else. Water in one bottle and watered down Gatorade in the other.

I use a Camel Back on the road and MTB. I always fill it half full of ice and then the rest of the way with water. I find that by the end of 25 miles the water is still nice and cold.

water all the time. For racing i usually carry some raisins or fruit cake. Also glucose and electrolyte replacing sweets are a must.

Make mine water on the rocks please :)

For some rides I'll fill the water bottle 3/4 of the way full and then freeze it. On the morning of the ride I top it off with water and off I go.

Crown Royal.

I usually put gatorade in a bottle for rides over two hours. Otherwise, it's however much water I need for a given ride. I let PowerGel do the rest on shorter rides.

i'm usually a water drinker, but i'm debating whether or not to use gatorade on my race this sat. they say you shouldn't do anything radically different than you've been doing during training, but i do think that that sugar would definitely do me some good.

If I'm out on a particularly long ride will have
water in camelback and one bottle, 2nd bottle
filled with something like powerade, accelerade etc.

Plain old hydrogen hydroxide for me. Very occasionally, I'll mix up some diluted powerade in one of the bottles.

On long rides I use a camelback (frozen the night before) AND a 20oz waterbottle filled with concentrated gatorade (from mix).

Short Rides - One large bottle with water, one small bottle with gatorade

Long Distance Rides - One large bottle with water, one large bottle with gatorade, one large camelback with water.

I have three bottles of Gatorade made up in the fridge at all times. I don't like drinking regular water, but I down Gatorade like it is going out of style. A lot of late night trips to the head.

Gatorade. On short rides, in bottles. On long rides, in the Camelbak with Gatorade ice cubes. Occasionally, on a short leisurely ride, I put iced tea in the bottles.

On most rides, water in two bottles and my hydrapack. Water is POWER. On century rides, one bottle filled with cold dill pickle juice, and then the water. Don't laugh, a sip every 5 miles, and plenty of water, and your legs will still feel great at the end of the ride!! A trick that I learned from an old timer. (Yeah, there are guys older than me out there riding!)

...sometimes I stop at a petrol station and slam a Sprite!

Otherwise it's H20.

For 25 years I have used a 50/50 mix of Gatorade in all my bottles. 2 years ago I asked my LBS who race in RAMM and a slew of 24 hour races and who sold a bunch of other sport drinks what they thought was the best, and they said 50/50 mix of Gatorade!! After all these years, Gatorade still has the expensive bike boutique stuff beat!

High quality H2O with a couple of ice cubes in a Polar bottle or camelback.

Water...only water...the colder the better. I keep a number of water bottles in the freezer, ready to go...one half full. I fill it with water just before a ride and use it first. That and a frozen one on the bike, a few more in the bag and rotate them out as I go along. Usually I can finish a ride and still have icy water...mmmmm....my favorite! (But I even drink ice water in the middle of raging blizzards! Go figure!)

Water in bottle 1, Revenge in bottle 2. I will not wear a camelback on my road bike and will not ride without on my mtb.

actually, it would be dyhydrogen monoxide. :)

I like having a bottle of gatoraide in the cage in addition to the bottle, it is a bit of carbs if I'm feeling crappy.
