Southern California - Alternative to Palm Springs Century

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just an FYI - my club has done this ride for several years. Basically it's for folks who have been there and done that and works really well if you have pals during the Century and you can hook up after and get a ride home.

I've not done it but hear it a very nice (and less bumpy) ride than Palm Springs. You don't need a hotel in Palm Springs as the ride starts from Placentia. No getting up before dawn the day of. It's a nice alternative:

ride to palm springs

Saturday, February 10, 7:00 a.m.

91+ mile ride to Palm Springs. Starts in Placentia from Rhonda Larson's home.

This is a BCI no-drop adventure ride much better than the PS Century, and free besides! Remote starts in Placentia, remoter finish in PS.

Ride the Santa Ana River Trail to its end. Ride a vintage boulevard with palms and roses. Pass orange groves and snow covered mountains. Cross an Indian reservation. Experience desolation along Jack Rabbit trail. See the fields of wind generators, and blow into PS a winner. (Ask previous riders!) Then hitch up with others from BCI if you like. Under 100 miles.

To return find a friend, call hubby, find someone doing the PS century, let me know you're looking, or ride back the next day! Santa Ana winds cancel. You can't go that far in one day with fierce headwinds.

Would Rhonda Larson know we were all coming?
