Ok....here is the rule. It's not about not liking your first name, but would your name be YOUR choice if you had named yourself?

Now is your chance to speak up.

Tell us your current first name, and what you would change it too if you (as you are right now) would have named yourself. Oh...and tell us why if there is a specific reason.

Current First Name: Chris

If I named myself: George

Reason: Not sure why....just always seemed like a good name to me when I was a kid. I liked the way it sounded.

an early love of "Curious George?" :D

As common as my first name is, and as much as it bugged me when I was younger, I don't think I'd change it now.

Current First Name: Garrick

I don't think I would change it. I have no idea why my parents named me that (they said they were going to name me Gary), but I really like it. It's really unique. :) And it means "Spear Power" in Germanic or something. :D

Current first name: Michele

Since no one has EVER used my real name (I was nicknamed Mickie before I left the hospital as a newborn). I would change it to Mickie since it never even occurs to me to answer when someone says Michele (think doctors waiting room...I just sit there like a bump on a log and then it "Oh, me?")

an early love of "Curious George?" :DThere's a thought that hadn't occurred to me and may be on the money. I was hugely crazy about Curious George as a kid. I do still have a cheap little curious doll from as long ago as I have memory. I think my dad won it for me at the fair or something.

Current first name: Richard.

I like it and don't know if I'd ever change it, unless the IRS finally catches up with me.

I always liked Aaron and Kyle, so that's what I named my sons! I thought the names were uncommon without being geeky.

Hmmm. Actually, "Chucknorris" would be a good first name...

BTW, I like the subtle animation on your avitar, KT.

I was nicknamed Termite at 2 years old. With only slight modification, you can see that I still use it. :)

My folks wanted to have Mickie on my birth certificate but there is no "Saint Mickie" and back then (don't know about now) Catholics named thier kids after saints...so Michele after St. Michael.

I never had a nickname that stuck.

I was know as "Tach" while on my Jr.HS bowling team, because my initials are "RPM".

I'd change my first name to Raymond Luxury Yacht. But pronounce it Walter Mangrove.

Is she a hurricane?
 actually she is!
she actually had a tough time associating that hurricane to her name.. she went thru all the "jokes" about it and would see signs on the news saying " go away Katrina" she's a young kid and it made her sad. :(

Hmmm, if I were to name myself?

My real first name is Thomas, but I've always been partial to the name Beowulf. Don't laugh, it's true! I was exposed to early Norse and Gaelic and Frankish mythology as a kid.....

An alternate might be Loki!

Cúchulainn translates to Kings Hound. It's actually a statement as to his Loyalty to his king....

Real name: George

Despite going through soooooo many jokes it seemed to fit me well.

But I'd love: Muad'Dib

I named my truck that since it was such a beast. None of my bikes at the moment fit that (still musing about Siu's name your bike thread) though.

My name is Lawrence
Fathers name is Larry. Yes, he IS a plumber!
All growing up
I was Larry
I stopped that at 15 when I went to California for rest of HS
There I was Clark ..my last name
I never liked Lawrence or Larry

If I were to change my name now
I would choose Laroo ..my nickname from birth.
I identify with that name. That's the name I remember when I think of most of my good times with family

I go by Lawrence or Clark now
I'm OK with them.

Give up Ham?

No way, ma and pa Bone got it right.

Truth is my first name is Ted and I'll be damned if I could do better. (I'm a junior and I love the idea of having my father's name. And that he was named after my grandmother's brothers who died during WWII.)
