Touring - Brake pads
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'll be replacing my brake pads in the near future, need suggestions on which to get. I'm running AVID Shorty 6s. Leaving spring 2007 for an extended tour. A year or longer.
Anyone bring along extra brake pads while touring? One set? Two?

I think many people on this forum would recommend the Salmon KoolStops. If I was going on a year long tour, I would bring a full spare set, since these pads are pretty thin to begin with.
You could get replacement pad refills. I use the Nashbar replaceable V-brake shoes with the Kool-Stop V-brake refills. BTW--the Nashbar replacement pads are actually quite good and cheap, but they wear down fast.
I have Avid Shorty 4's with this setup and it works fine.
