I'll be in Sarasota from Saturday to Friday afternoon. If there's anyone who wants to ride and has a spare steed, drop me a PM any time between now and then. I've got nothing scheduled for the entire week and would really like to do a little riding where I don't have to wear thermal underwear, a toque and a parka. If you just wanna lend me a bike for the week, I ride a 56 but beggars can't be choosers. Conversion, IRO or NJS whip- I don't discriminate.

Don't go to the SRQ. All you'll find is 17 year old hipsters and dying retirees.

+golf carts

I grew up there, way bike unfriendly, hit a few times, a thousand miles to anywhere, all the cars drive at 60+ everywhere- parking lots, residential streets, everywhere except the interstate, where they drive 90+
Can you tell I love it? :barf:

Get your arse over to St. Pete...I thought that was your plan all along. You'll have a better chance of riding that way. This weekend however most of us on here will be in Gainesville.

You should skip that garbage and go to the race in gainesville. If you can't, I think Siesta Key is about the only nice thing about that place. Then again, I hate Florida sprawl.

My friend Eric who commutes to/from Sarasota called me once on his way home and said he was crossing the Skyway and traffic was all backed up because some guy (a fisherman or something, not a "cyclist") was riding his hybrid bike or whatever over the bridge and there was a cop following him with his lights on, backing up traffic. True story.

I'll be driving up to St. Pete's for a day or two but I can't make it the entire week. I really wish I could, but I'm stuck in Sarasota for most of the week. If there's no one to ride with does anyone know where I'd be able to rent a roadie? I looked for a few days last year but all I found were rusty, out-of-tune beach cruisers.

I'd definitely be racing in Gainsville, but I only land in Tampa at 5ish on Saturday.

sarasota's not that bad. check out the amish people in fruitville. go to myakka state park to the south. check out the dozens of thai restaurants. keep an eye out for flocks of wild parakeets. find the bike routes. go check out new college, if you can find a student you know to take you around on the weekend.
st armand's circle sucks, but ride to the beach at night and check out the phosphorescence.
i miss tropical thai. i miss sarasota.

So I'm here and I'm dying to ride. Unfortunately it's not looking too good as far as making it out to St. Pete's to rent a bike. Someone in Sarasota, help please!

I saw someone on a debadged Pista with pink bullhorns ride by while I was having lunch at Citrus a Cafe. Sarasota, I think you're holding out on me!

Sarasota has never been ready to rock.

Seriously, there are other cool things to do there, don't waste time trying to ride, you might as well come to that part of FL to rock climb. Go to the Dali and Ringling museums.

Grimlock

I did the Ringling Museum last year -not a whole lot to write home about. The Dali museum I might hit when it rains tomorrow though.
I actually found a place to rent a Scott in exactly my size here. I called Northeast Cycles and the only thing they had was an Ironhorse roadie so I'm gonna have to skip St. Pete's entirely.

The ringling is kind of lame, agreed, though the house on the grounds is cool. It's worth going to if you're going to be in philly or have been recently, some the tapestries made from the huge Rubenseses in the first room are in the philly museum.
