Good, WheresWaldo. Is anyone else planning on doing a tandem ride? I haven't heard it mentioned.

I thought about brining my Tandem and stoker with me but after thinking about all of the hills for about 10 seconds I figured I may be just better off riding my single :)

That must be really fun. I've always wanted to try a tandem. Closest thing I ever did was two in a canoe.

We thoroughly enjoy it but our rides are pleasure rides not hard training rides. My wife's work schedule and the kids do not allow for her to ride much so she never gets much of a base.

Tandem riding up the parkway would be cool. I would have to photograph it for I have never saw a tandem there before.

Hmm, could I get someone to haul me up the mountain on a tandem? Any volunteers?

I think either msheron or BikeWNC could oblige. :p

I'm sure there will be many in the group stronger than I.

I've never ridden a tandem. I assume it's no easier climbing than going solo.

When I did the organized Cherohala ride last summer, there was a three-person bike doing the climb. As I recall, they said it weighed over 80 pounds.

They were having some mechanical issues with the seat/and or "handlebar" on the back and ended up going 2 person for a while. Frankly, it didn't look all that fun going up the mountain.

OK, we need an official name for this ride (SoCal style) and should probably start a new thread since we're not polling anymore.

But who will pull my 195 lb. frame up the mtn. I suck at climbing for speed. I am just constant like an old billygoat! I don't give up. Trust me you guys will laugh at me that Saturday.

I rode the hills in my neighborhood and they were rough. I never thought about the hills here.

I went out and did a hill climb TT effort yesterday. I didn't make the power goal I wanted but I did set new marks for 5 to 13 minutes. The problem is the interval was supposed to be 20 minutes long. It's hard to find any recovery on an 8 to 11% grade.

Another training report: Yesterday I did my 20 mile "home" route. It featured a grueling 70 foot hill (elevation change) going against a moderately strong headwind.

Take that, you mountain goats. ;)

Sound of my jaw hitting my handle bars while looking at that hill and thinking I have gotta climb it on a bicycle.

Well that hill averages over 8% for 4.4 miles! Nothing like that on the Wheezers and Whiners Mountain Ride but there will be a taste of it here and there.

I will be in Ft. Fisher most of next week and will take my bike. I will be working but hopefully will get some flat land riding done in the evening.

Any "cheaper" hotels close to the ride start? Anyone else here going to be lodging? Could be cool to have a SEBF host hotel.....

i got a room at the pisgah inn for $89 and comfort suites in asheville saturday night for $90 including tax.

The Pisgah Inn would be the best place for Friday night. Not only is it right at the start of the ride, there is an OK restaurant on the premises. If you get up ther early enough Friday, you could always stretch your legs with a ride on the BRP or a hike up Mt Pisgah.

There is also a FS campground across the road for the Inn. You could camp and still use the restaurant. Ther are no showers in the campground though.

Sorry for being lazy and not wanting to read all 16 pages but .....
1. Is there a ride schedule....start time, meet location, mileage...etc....listed anywhere?
2. What is the head count at this point?

Gary,

We started a newer thread. Ride information is listed at the beginning here (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=288124).

The roll call, as it stands, is here (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=290525).

Are you planning to join in?

Check this thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=288124).

If you have any questions let us know. Currently, I think there are 8 riders for the Sat. ride though I may bring a couple of local riders along too (if I can talk them into it).
