Southern California - Pearl Izumi Store

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I read on another board that there is a new PI factory store in Del Mar. The address is: Del Mar Highlands Town Center, 12845 El Camino Real, Suite S-1, 92130, Phone: 858.793.0366
Are factory stores supposed to be less expensive than other retailers? I only ask because I remember passing a PI store on my way to San Jose...I think it was in Gilroy...and I called to ask the price on my beloved Sugar Shorts and they were more expensive than they were at Performance. Gone are the days that factory/outlet stores had killer deals!
In my experience, you can find stuff on sale in regular stores cheaper than the factory stores.

Depends on the store/item. I've gotten great deals on basketball and running shoes at that same Nike outlet store in Gilroy (and the one in Cabazon). But you're right -- you shouldn't assume lower prices just because it's an outlet store. It pays to be selective, and to know how the item is priced at regular stores. I think those stores thrive on shoppers that just buy there because they assume outlet stores have rock-bottom prices.

I went to a PI factory store in Georgia over the holidays, and I will give the experience a B-. Lots of good stuff, and PI is among my favorite gear, but as GP mentions above, the prices aren't anything special. One exception -- they did have a fair amount of prototype models and one-offs on sale for pretty good prices. They were all the same size, though (Medium, I think... or was it Large).

Canari has a once a year sale in December at their headquarters in Vista. Genuine killer deals if you like their stuff.
i find that the one here in the burbs of the windy city has a great selection of all their gear with decent prices. i generally find that their prices are about $5 cheaper per item then the local performance bike store. later.
