Yahoo!'s auction site here is full of vivalos. Don't know whether that means they love 'em (and have a lot) or hate 'em (and are getting ride of them).

Level, that's the only njs frame i've owned so i may be a little bias

Just been trawling FGG looking for my favourite submissions of 2006, there's one Nagasawa that's running away with it IMHO. I've never ridden a keirin bike, but I know his are my favourite to look at.

I've only ever ridden my 3rensho and a friend's Bridgestone, so I guess I don't really have much upon which to form a decent opinion. That said, I'd buy another 3rensho in a minute and, were I to travel to Japan to get myself a custom, it'd be a Kiyo.

Samson and 3Rensho are the frames for which I lust.
Especially that yellow Samson frame someone posted awhile back with the chrome fork and rear triangle.
Level is definitely a close third.

so, 3rensho doesn't exist any more, but Makino-san, who used to build for Konno-san in the 3rensho shop, has his own brand now. If you're looking for a "new" 3rensho, you'll find Makinos are quite close.
You gotta go with what you know: Levant and Kalavinka for me. Also a big fan of Level, BP, and Panasonic.

I love Reminton lugs. I love the Bomber Pro name. And I love the Gan Well Pro for being the first track bike I'd ever seen and made me stop and go, "Whoa...".

Bridgestone, Eimei
RAP for me because he was the first one I met. I have met most in Tokyo or they know of me.
My next trip I will be going to see Kiyo, Level( redoing my Level) , Makino (get some stuff done),RAP( get my custom and seeing a good friend), Kalavinka ( seeing what is new), Watanabe.

I've never ridden any NJS bike, so with absolutely no basis except that they're beautiful :D , I love Bridgestone/Anchor and Panasonic bikes. Now if I could only get one in 60 cm cheaply (both of which are probably nigh impossible), I'd be set.
Ive never ridden/owned but I really like Bridgesone and Kalavinka, very pretty.

I don't subscribe to this NJS'ed lifestyle, but that bike is not NJS. Oval chainstays and fork blades.
I have that same exact bike though.

what's the favorite in Japan
I would have to say 3rensho, Nagasawa, Kalavinka, Makino..from what ive seen.
If you see someone on a fixie here itll 99.99% of the time be an NJS frame. There arent all these startup companies here with cheap frames like in the states.

samson, vogue, reminton, makino, kalavinka.
oh yeah...and my LEVEL.
Favorite is LEVEL. Nagasawa, Kiyo Miyazawa and Yanagisawa are all up there. Flat, pantographed fork crowns, traditonal seatstays with pantographing on the top, tab style dropouts and standard diameter tubing are what I personally favor.

It sounds to me like, in Japan, a second-hard NJS frame costs
about as much as a cheap frame from a statup company here
in the States.

Curt Harnett's NJS Gardin used to race Keirin.
Curt Harnett was the KING. His hair was a mulletcrown of finely spun radioactive gold.
What's the story behind this frame?
I brought this up a while ago during the initial BFSSFG group frame buy, but Toyo in Japan makes a bunch of rivendells, including the criminally affordable Bleriot. They also make Ritcheys (drool).
We oughtta order a boatload of frames from them. They probably wouldn't be much more than a Surly or Soma, but hotter by a mile.

I think typically yeah but it depends on what it is. Seems you can get almost any of them for around 500 bucks or even much less.
Ben? :) Red sex coming right up.
Talked to a shop owner (Cycle Depot) the other day, told me a few years ago it was easy to find NJS framesets for 50 bucks. Seems crazy but im sure he knows.
Now the boooooom has hit.
There's a wide range in prices here, and I can't seem to find much method to the madness. Online has proven to be the cheapest, though I'm sure there are a few shops hidden around the country with dirt cheap frames. Deathhare is right about the ~$500 thing, though I was in a fixed-specific shop today that was geared toward street-fixed riding, and they were selling most of their frames (used, remember) for ~$1000.

i'm biased, but i vote reminton.
when i was in the market & looking to drop some serious green on the frame, it bested every rensho, nagasawa, and samson that was also available at the time. but seriously, i still browse sasha & stratton's pages and get excited about **** like that yellow & off-white eimei that sasha had..

I lubs my panasonic.
makino makes some amazing frames. i've had two now, both of which were quite different in style and the ultrajam.
that said, like many, i really like the samson frames. i sometimes think that they're too gaudy, but they are nice nonetheless. the reminton stuff is the same way.

Was it sashae that had the blue or purple bike with with specs on the paint? He had a picture of it on his window-sill taken with an SLR that just made it look stupid nice.
Personally I like:
