Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Deep V's, but only in 26" and 24"? WTF?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've never managed to find Deep V's in the UK, but something made me scout again today. I want to build a fixed wheelset, or maybe two, and I'd been looking at ways of doing it on the cheap (none are looking that cheap!). To my surprise, I find Deep V's are available! And cheap! (at around $20). Then I notice that they're only in 26" and 24"? WTF? Who uses these in those sizes?

CRC caters heavily to freeride/street mountainbikes, which are standard with 24 or 26 inch rims. They have aeroheads for 700c.
Call and see if they can special order for the same price.

Velocity always has closeouts and I get super excited every time I get a one sheet from them, but the available rims are always awful colors in 16", 20", 24", and 26" which I have absolutely no use for!

Just order the Deep Vs direct from the states. Its easy, find a bunch of people, find a friendly american shop, pay money, wait 4-6 weeks for delivery and its all yours. Its easy if you try.

If you're too lazy, Mavic CXP-33s are a decent stand in and you can get those for cheap if you look around.

Oh and for London folks, Rollapolza VIII (http://www.londonmessengers.org/rollapaluza-vii) is the 27th @ The Horseshow, Clerkenwell Road.

I DO!!! Is this a legit site though?

EDIT: Nevermind, it seems as if they're for MTB. I have a track bike.

It's more that shipping seems so damned expensive. I'm thinking of just going with Mavic Open Sport.

I'm looking for a 24inch rim for a funny bike front. Are these available from a US dealer? I also need a tire if anyone has one PM me.

I would totally get those in the 24" size, if they were for sale in the states.

And have the most aero bmx cruiser ever.

whats the largest practical tire size you can run on a Deep V? I'm thinking about getting some knobbies if this lousy weather keeps up.

el Deep Vee c'est born en le terre down under, monsignor. Yous hombres del commonwealth deben haben pretty good market access, non?

Also, one model or another from velocity comes in everything from 630 to 305, though not in 584 (The Notorious Six Fiddy Bee). This is partly because the recumbent crowd loves them some velocity, and they use a lot of small wheels.

Bending the deep V extrusion down to 24" sounds way scary to me.

Man, maybe someone should set up a deep v blackmarket ring in the UK. Sorta' like Levis in Russia circa '84. Who's down.

the tires i was running were 2.1's you could probably go a little bigger. the 26" rim is wider than the 700's since it's designed for mtb use

I used to use 650 deep v's on my Time Trial bike, they were very popular among triathletes, might still be.

Just goes to show how overpriced the 700c versions of deep v's are.

those prices are in euros, right? a 26" set shipped for $32?

Sammyboy

The prices are in Pounds. Assume $2 to £1 at the moment. It's cheap.

So yeah, I'm seriously thinking that I ought to import Deep V's. Seriously.

You can go even thicker - I have a deep-V wheelset with 559x50, but you absolutely must have either a longer stem presta, or a holder nut on the schrader while inflating. Once inflated, the stem will stay out even without the nut.
