I am worried that what I worry about won't happen, and what I don't worry about will. Worry just seems so futile - and I worry that I am soon going to be Alfred E. Neuman...

I worry about my tire blowing out on a long ride again, because now, on top of it being a biatch to get the tire off and back on that rim, my right thumb is fubar'ed. There'd be no way I could fix it on the road, and I'd have to walk home, unless I can actually find someone who can come get me. And being more than four miles, or an hour's walk, out...well, friends, that bites. :(
Day-um. I just need to go ahead and get a modern roadbike. :D
There are other things on my mind that keep me awake at night, but those are personal.
What's on your mind, AJC? What do you worry about?

What kinda rims/tires are you on? Sounds like you need to get a looser fit. I went through a pair of tires on my last road bike that were an EXTREMELY tight fit (a good half-hour to get them off/on in the comfort of my own home, much less on the road.) I used to worry about flats in them as well. Walking even half a mile home sucks when you've got road shoes on.
Then again, when I got rid of that bike, I was daily-riding tubulars on my Cervelo. So I guess I'm dumb. :D

Worried about rather a lot of things recently.
Final year of a Maths degree, have a report due in shortly, find the topic particularly dull, don't know anywhere near enough background on the subject and written work is my weak spot anyway. Was already accepting that my report would be below the required standard, find out today that I'd underestimated just what standard they were expecting. Great.
Also have just finished another Maths unit, basically understand none of the work we've done in it over the last four months. Again have no motivation for it since it turned out to be much more pure than I'd anticipated.
So that's at least 2 units out of 6 that I'm liable to screw up completely. 1 unit has been pretty good, about to start the next three.
Alongside that (and I hope indirectly caused by it) I've been struggling seriously with maintaining a positive mood whenever I go out and socialise with friends. Half way through an evening I'm unable interact in any kind of fun way and end up going home. Which then just gets me more depressed.
Anyway, my apologies, I suspect that was a little more than was required!

"... i worry about being dependant on someone ..."
True, that's not an easy state. But if you want to know true anxiety, wait until someone is dependent on you."
I'm not much of a worrier but I do have concerns that I'll be dirt poor when I'm old. I chose to work in mental health (primarily with mentally ill homeless people) and knew I'd never make much money...but I really don't want to end up like my clients.

exactly....everything is going swimmingly...but...there's just something in the background....Yeah, everything can be going great and I find myself worrying that it's getting ready to hit the fan. Whatever it is. Nothing real to worry about, just this dark feeling. Now, since I worry so much about the imagined give me something real to worry about and I'm glad I keep my hair too short to pull out.

Meh. Worry is a poor way of expressing care for someone. That's like saying knee injury is a sign that you're a biker. You can be a biker, yet take steps to prevent knee injury. I was joking in my earlier post, but honestly - there are some things in life we *can* influence, and others we *can't.* If you CAN influence something, do it. If you can't, don't worry about it, since there's nothing you can do.
My point: Worry is a choice.

Weinmann 6x630, currently using Bontrager Select B 27 x 1 1/8 tires. But I assure you that a 27" modern tire is just an eensy bit too small. My current beater is an '84 Schwinn LeTour, BTW. If anyone knows a more appropriate tire for this old rim, lemme know....

I 've had trouble with the Bontragers getting on and off too (plus a spate of flats after the tire got kind of worn). I recently replaced one with a Vittoria Zaffiro. I've gotten through a few rides with no worries since I changed it out. Mine were 27 x 1-1/4 though, and not exactly a piece of cake to mount, but noticably easier.

It was a Trek bike with house brand 700c rims, Vredestein Fortezza tires. I recently had a 27" wheeled beater, but I gave it away. The tires were a good fit, but they were probably as old as the bike, probably not in production any more. . .
Hey, think of this as a good reason to get a new bike. :D Or, probably more practical, get some el-cheapo 700c wheels and slap those on. If you have enough adjustability in your brake pads (just a few mm is all you need) the switch isn't a problem.

Yes, SF, this is as good a reason as any to go shopping. I plan to buy myself a sweet high-end roadbike in the next few weeks, and will start the TT season with it. I'm looking to commit to a TT bike by late summer. And the beater will go on the trainer, though I'll still ride it occasionally on the road (like when I have someone along for the ride who has huge calloused thumbs!)
As far as switching out wheelsets, this is an idea I've been toying with since the brake pads have plenty of room for adjustment, but would require spreading the frame. I have a roadie friend who wants me to help him spread his old Bianchi frame. When we've practiced on his frame, and have been successful, we'll do my Schwinn. :D

Sweet ride. What components do you have? I can't tell. Where do you do TT?
I'm looking at (and test-riding) as many as I can, heh, heh. I've been looking at Cervelo and Specialized already. I'll be looking at some Cannondales soon as well. Nearly had a bike-gasm last Saturday while fondling a Cervelo TT bike at the LBS! :D

It's an early P2k frame, pre-SL. Mix of Shimano components (Ultegra dérailleurs, cassette, crankset, chain rings, and chain; 105 brakes; Dura-Ace bar ends and bottom bracket). Vision Tech base bar with s-bend T2 Profile Design aero bars. Spengle disk, Campy Shamal front wheel. I forget what the saddle is, but I LOVE it. It's a 650c bike. I forget what the brake levers are, as well. Just cheapy ones. I want to get those ultra-light Vision Tech levers, but I can't justify it really.
I just do local club TT's, for now at least. And some triathlons. Oh, and when the weather is good, I commute on this beast. (with different wheels!)
IMHO, Cervelo has it all together when it comes to this kind of bike. The frames really are total packages that combine a lot of nice little details in a very flexible geometry. I think they're able to offer that based on being a small company pretty much focused on a very narrow segment of biking. Which Cervelo was that at your LBS?
How much seat time do you have on TT/tri bikes? The difference in geometry made more of a difference in riding feel than I expected. On a normal road bike, I feel like I'm sitting on it and riding. On a TT bike, I feel like I'm constantly falling uphill or something. It certainly makes it easy to put the power down.

I believe what caught my eye was the P3, but tricked out with an Ultegra kit? I also played with the Soloist Carbon roadbike. I think I could marry that one. :D But I'm willing to take my time and look around a bit more.
So you do TT local to you? That could still be anywhere. I'll be riding here in NC, Lowe's Motor Speedway.

The P3 is DEFINITELY drool worthy. If I ever had to replace my frame, I'd probably try to find an aluminum P3 - the carbon version is too rich for me. And yeah, the Soloist would be high on my list for a road bike, too.
Local to me is upstate NY. :D
