Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Where to get Anodizing done

I'm curious where to get custom Anodizing done. Local, Vermont or New England is better, but so far I've com up blank finding anyone who does that sort of thing around here. Anyone else know?

Ask around at local motorcycle shops. They often deal with custom powder coating, chroming and anodizing.

Yea look for a full service machine shop as another option. I know one of the bigger machine shops we use for work does anodizing as well as other coatings (teflon is pretty cool too).

Make sure they know how to do "pretty" finishes. I've had some done before and while it was a good job it was more of an "Industrial" type anodizing and not all shiny and pretty

Well I called a machine shop who referred me to the place they send their anodizing, who said they don't do that, and referred me to another place that also "doesn't do that" So I asked here.

That sounds like excellent advice... except that was where I started. Apparently everyone listed there under anodizing is actually a machine shop, and they don't do any anodizing in-house.

if you don't mind sending parts to michigan, i can hook you up with a place i've used.

Actually I've got family in MI, so that might work out fine.

BTW I found one place down in MA that can do it. they have a minimum lot charge of $80, so I would probably have to do a bunch more than a pair of rims to make it worthwhile.

Did you check under "plating" in the yellow pages? If there's a place that does chrome plating or polishing, they'd probably have have a better idea of who does anodizing (if they don't do it themselves).

there is no plating in my Yellow pages. For frame of reference, my yellow pages are 8mm thick.

What are you trying to anodize? You can do a basic job yourself, but you need a big enough container. If it's like a whole frame, It's better to send it out.

I want to anodize a pair of $20 rims for my daughters pink bike, because she wants pink rims, and I don't want to spend $60 ea. for Powder coated Velocities. I'm not sure if I'll save enough money to make it worthwhile, but that's what I'm trying to determine. She doesn't want or need a $200+ wheelset, but would really like the color matched wheels for cool factor, and I'd really like to be the cool dad to provide them. :)

annodizing gets really expensive for anything larger than a chainring or cranks though. it's basically not worth it unless you can do quantity.

Have you seen this? Duplicolor makes a spray on that looks ok, but you would have to have a really even coat on rims:
