I may be in for this ride. I'm taking my boingyboing to the LBS this week to deal with my brake issues and generally get the ride all tuned up. I can't wait for you anymore Jeff...you let me down, pal.
so kidding. I should have taken it to the LBS straight from the swapmeet.

Took the bike to the LBS (Trek on Kearny Villa) and they said my caliper and/or master cylinder for my rear hydro needs a rebuild...seals are busted and fluid is pumping in reverse...Thinking the worst, I asked, "How much?"
his answer, "$24.99"
"Just fix the dang thing....you called me for a $25 repair?"
jsigone
01-25-07, 12:15 PM
LOL they have to cover their back, just like an auto repair place. So I guess your pads are still good:D
So when are we going to do a pre-flight on that bike? Or are you just going to jump on it on the 3rd and prey for the best?:D

I'm going to take it off some sweet jumps on the sidewalk first. It's a sledgehammer.
They said it'll take a few days to get the rebuild kit, so no MTB'ing for me this weekend. I'd dork around on it when I get it back, but yeah, Aliso will probably be the first ride with it.

TIff - if you are really intersted - several shops offer deals on bike purchases if the amount is over $1000.
It's a one year, no interest loan. I've bought two bikes (a bed, and my living furniture) this way. Once the money shows up I pay it off or at least I can make payments without interest.
A shop that offers such deals is Incycle in San Dimas. I recommend that shop because they carry Santa Cruz, Specialize and other good bikes you might want to try. If you want a Trek, Jax also has the same deal (as does Performance). Something to consider. For $1500 or so you get get a top notch full suspension ride.

Hi,
I might be interested in this ride. I am going to see if I can get someone else to join me as well. Can you please give directions to the meeting site?
Thanks.
Where is the meeting spot? Can a beginner go on this ride?

here are the directions
http://www.biketrails.com/alisowood.html
Parking is $3, bills and quarters only in the machine. It doesn't give change either if you put a $5 bill in.
Beginners CAN do this ride, but this trail has a fine line of beginner and intermidate skills needed. You can walk what ever you feel uncomfortable with. There will be two downhills trails that will challenge you, again you can walk the sections you're not comfy with doing. There is a considerable amount of climbing on the trails, but they tend to be short and steep rather then long and painful (ok except getting to top of the world). I can do a elevation chart for those interested.

Sounds good:D You can follow us if you want, sorry my lil box is gonna be full and draggin tires, w/ 3 heads and 3 bikes:eek: I may install my stock tires for the weekend:eek:
Looks like this is going to be another nice ride, and I'm looking forward to meeting more BF riders…..(only met a few so far).
If any one is interested.....once we get to the top of the world, I plan on breaking off and heading down to Laguna Canyon Road and then shoot over to El Moro and Laguna Coast for some extra miles; and maybe caffeine break down on PCH. If you have not seen the trails on the other side of the canyon, it's well worth the extra mileage.

I think you'll be fine, the place gets lots of traffic so most of the trails are packed down pretty good. Meadows is the only trail that is a lil loose, just take it slow and you'll be ok:D

Jeff, is Meadows the last downhill we did when I was there? If so, good stuff!!!

I'm interested, but more worried about the pace. I do this ride semi-regularly but am no speed demon. I can make it to the top without issue, but I'm on the slower side.
I suppose it makes no difference if I can't keep up since I know the trails, I would just hate to have people waiting for me.

I bought a used mountain bike 2 months ago and haven't ridden it off road yet. I don't think you have to worry.

Yeah but I bet you road ride at an average pace of 30 mph:p
Just kidding.
I'm in if welcome to crash the group.
So where about in the parking lot do you all meet up? My vehicle is rather distinct but this would be my first BF ride so I don't know faces, bikes or vehicles. Since the parking lot is usually rather full...

let's try this Mo style:D
Tiff Yah Meadows is the last one we did last time that caused your singlespeed conversion:D
HRC Speed will be moderate (7-13mph on the flats) The flatter single tracks are like rollers so you're able to keep your speed up if you dont' hammer the brakes every turn. This is a no drop ride so we won't leave you out there. On some of the hill, please don't be surprised if some us do hill repeats while you are still climbing or decending. (speaking mostly of Cholla, we might climb up, go down and climb again, on Meadows, we might bomb down, climb up a bit then bomb back down:D My friend and I LOVE DH) I drive a lowered silver Scion XB, the lil boxy thing w/ a red bike rack on the rear, pretty hard to miss. When you pull in, just go to the far left by the potty/ranger station (not NEXT to the potty, just near it) I'll be the tall filipino guy wear eye glasses:D
Frank This ride might be a lil much, but you have alot of roadie bike skills under you so you might be a natural on the dirt. Just take it slow and steady and you'll have fun. The climbs are a bit challenging, steeper and in less area on a MTB then a roadie. I can PM you some MTB tips that will help make this a fun and non stressfull adventure:D

Cool. I'll be there then.
I'll be in a dark brown, old GMC 4x4 pickup.

The trails should be in perfect shape this weekend. A half day of rain today, followed by three days of sun will make for packed and tacky trails. Rock-it will be squeaky clean.

also..... what are the routes for AVOIDING the 91 when coming back home from aliso woods? and how much (approximate) extra mileage?
10 day weather for laguna niguel (http://www.weather.com/outlook/events/sports/tenday/USCA0575?from=36hr_fcst10DayLink_sports) looks AWESOME.... as of right now... for saturday!

Meadows is the last DH I have on the route slip or that bottom blue line on that linked map. VERY FUN DH. We can Climb Mathes, its a lil steeper and longer then Cholla though. I think Cholla is the easiest way back to the top fire road. I think JamR knows which is better, since it's his home field.
Around 91, I used to go this route
5 north, past 55/91
take 57 North,
Exit Lambert turn East
this turns into Carbon Canyon Road (142) (right past where we rode our MTBs a few months ago)
Right on Chino Hills Parkway 3 miles
Take east til 71, take 71 North 3-4 miles to 60 East
60 merges to 91/215 to take you up the the 10 or hop on the 15 and go North 2 miles til the 10East
caligurl
01-30-07, 11:35 AM
thank you! ya.... i was wondering if going up to the 60 was better! it's usually *knock on wood* not nearly as backed up as 91 (AND there's a tommy's up there, too.... so that's a good thing IMO!)
ok.... so meadows is that blue line that hooks back up with the parking area? but it's broken on the map.... not hooked into top of the world?
i'm just following along..... (and the resident "come on let's go" person!)
i'm going to put my bell on my bike for this trip!!!!! http://www.smileycons.com/img/emotions/195.gif

Umm, not sure why you wold go thru all the lambert Carbony CYN,71 ,Chino hills pkwy stuff. This will ad half an hour onto travel time.
If you stay on the 57 north, it merges onto the 60 east about 5,6 or 7 miles down the fwy. Carbon Cyn alone is 8 miles or so.:p
Mr. Beanz
01-30-07, 12:42 PM
Oh, and Tommy's is on Mountain Avenue north side of the 60 fwy in Ontario. Incycle (Chino store) is on the south side of the fwy in Chino, same exit. Both about 50 yards of the fwy...if you didn't know!:D

You might also consider taking the toll road (241) to the 91, then to the 71. I know you want to (understandably) avoid the 91, but you'd only be on it for a few miles before hitting the 71. From there you can catch the 60 and the 71 is usually empty.
I live in Irvine, and when I go to Fontana, this is the route I take when the 91 is a pain. I think one way toll is about $3.75, at two stops.
