Is it possible to get a Knoppix hd install distro on a compaq laptop to work with a wireless pcmcia card? I've butted my head against this wall a couple of times, get frustrated, and then walk away. Almost ready to try again. :) I'm not opposed to going out and buying a specific card if certain ones have better luck of success.
what chipset does it use
check ndiswrapper and see if its supported
if ndiswrapper wont, and the chipset isnt natively supported you will be out of luck
unfortunately wireless is much like the same deal as winmodems, they are often all software and very little hardware, linux doesnt cater to dumb hardware very often, there's just too much of it and too many variations

Yes, you need the chipset from the wireless device. Google the chipset name and the distro you want to try, that's usually the best way to find any information about support.
