Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I've been lurking here on the BF for quite a while, reading all the exciting rides & super looking bikes you guys have. I've been doing leisure rides with my son on our big wheel MTB, I am kind of scared of those tiny weensy tires on the road bike. Been checking on the price & they are quite a bit expensive than my MTBs & I don't know if I can handle them. So I decide to get a cheap used one to test the water. Last week, I picked up an old Schwinn(Japan made) sports tourer for $30.00. The tires are shot, shifters doesnot shift properly & the saddle is harder than rock. Replaced with new tires & tubes, clean up the rust, sprayed the frame black & put whilte bar tape on, & now I have my first road bike & it works! First time riding it I was so worried I am gonna trip or fall over, but I didn't & felt great. Tomorrow, I am gonna take it out on the road & put a few miles on it to practice riding it. Once I put in some time & become better ( & know more about them) I can invest in a really decent road bike & looking forward to riding with SoCal BFers! And for the time being, I felt a little bit more belonged posting here:D
P.S. I already brough the SoCal Jersey:)

Welcome, JetWave! :) Great! However, I'm one to encourage anyone wanting to ride on the road to go ahead and just invest, especially if you've been mountain biking. You will never really know just how sweet it is to be on a nice piece of equipment until...well...you're on a nice piece of equipment! :D
Also, there are so many threads all over this forum that will provide you with information and advice in terms of making a true investment in a road bike.

Congratulations on your first Road Bike, you did the right thing, you didn't jump into a spendy bike, now, after you find out how great Roadbiking can be and have a few base miles in you'll know exactly what you're looking for in your next Bike....
Actually, it's quite a coincidence, I picked up my first MTB today, so it sounds like we both have a learning curve ahead of us...:o but it's fun, and that's what it's all about, right??
Congrats and Welcome!! This is a GREAT group to ride with.

Welcome! And I see you have your priorities straight. It's always a good sign when your jersey is worth more than your bike.:D :D :D

Nothing wrong with vintage. Both of my roadies are older than a few of the posters around here. The more I read the Classics & Vintage forum, the more likely I am to keep old school for my future purchases.
