Right then, I was wondering what cycling products people would purchase if money were no object.

I know brands such as Assos, Pearl Izumi are popular when it comes to clothing and as for bikes themselves Cannondale, Pinarello, Colnago, Litespeed are right up there.

Well I guess my first bike would be to have my Santa Cruz Superlight rebuilt using Titanium. I would also have a Sid world cup made for me, but instead of the normal 80 mm of travel it would be 100 mm.

Next I would love to have a custom Pinarella made for me. Actually, forget that I want a copy of the bike that the owner of speedplay rides. 11 pound road bike rideable!

Tough call. It's a toss up between custom fit Ti bike with '04 Dura Ace components and a custom built to fit tandem for Donna and me.

The bikes are all sitting in my garage... 3 Ericksons, 2 Ventanas & a Dean:
http://home.att.net/~mark.livingood/BikeViewer.html

They don't have all of the goodies (e.g., Chorus vs Record in some cases and XT vs XTR), but they are nearly perfect in all other regards.

I'm not brand sensitive when it comes to cycling apparel. The top of the line products from Louis Garneu are as good as Pearl, Assos, Castelli, and the rest of the Italian companies and some of the lesser known such as Verge, Voler, etc...

If money were no object...
Cinelli XLR8R Record (alum/carbon)
Serotta Otrott (titanium)
Independent Fabrication Crown Jewel (steel)

But until then I'm happy with my Zurich!

Money's no object Zack, you can have both.

I would have to have a custom steel, top of the line rig, full dura ace. and....

A top of the line Italian rig, maybe a Colnago, with full Campy record. and.....

Of course something in Titanium, and Carbon, and a FS mtb rig.

A nice collection of vintage european rides.

Every tool Park makes.

Heck, I wouldn't ever stop

What about the Campy toolbox. Even if you just use it for decoration.

Oh yeah all you guys would get anything you wanted at cost price :p

Holy cow Livngood! If Jay Leno were into bikes, his garage and yours would be good company. :roflmao:

I still haven't figured out my dreams yet. There is too much good stuff out there. Interestingly, if money were no object, I'd probably take just as long picking my bike as when I'm on a budget, because I would hardly be willing to settle for a bike that doesn't fit my needs perfectly.

Alas, if it were only true. Actually, I think Jay Leno keeps most of his cars and motorcycles in a huge warehouse near LAX that also houses his own restoration shop. My "collection" merely hangs from the ceiling in the garage.

An excellent bit of wisdom. It does take a lot of research to figure out what's best and sometimes "the best" isn't the same things as what's "best for you".

If money were no object, I'd buy one of every bike I liked the look of, then give away the ones which I didn;t care for after trying them out. In fact, I'd probably have a bike custom made for me. :)

IF money were no object the Merlin Cielo with Campy Record group. I really like the TI lugs that have that old world design to it with high technology look.

A 1951 Jaguar XK120 coupe, fully restored. This is the only foreign car to ever win a major NASCAR race, and it was strictly stock.

Well lets see, this could be a lot of stuff if money is no object.

1) A velodrome down the street from me.
2) A Porsche 911 900hp
3) Colnago Ferrari
4) Custom Crmo frame w/ UltraFoco tubing and Full Campy Record parts.
5) Park tool's entire collection of tools but with a DT spoke wrench
6) A bike store out of my house
7) All new cycling clothing, top of the line.
8) Buy out Pacific cycle so they would stop manufacturing their crap and resulting in people bringing it to my store :)

All of them!

But if I had to limit myself to a resonable number, a Serotta Ottrott, a Seven Duo, a Vision R-80, and maybe a tandem (Double?) Vision to take the bride or kids on.

While out riding this AM and reaffirming that I pretty much have my perfect stable of bicycles I did think of the one bicycle that I don't have and would like to if money were no object: A Mesicek Ordinary

Buy and/or learn more about these incredible bicycles here:
http://www.hammacher.com/publish/18785.asp?source=dealtime&keyword=18785

or here: http://www.koolstop.com/mesicek/mesicek.html

Also learn more about "The Wheelmen" -- an organization dedicated to preserving America's cycling heritage. http://www.thewheelmen.org/default.htm

As an interesting data point, whether intended or not Georgia's Motor Vehicle Code prohibits the use of an Ordinary (aka. Pennyfarthing or High Wheeler) on Georgia's roads.

well............an Anvilbikes fork jig and mitering system on which to build myself a dedicated single-speed road frame. and give my city government enough money for adequate speed bumps, speed cameras, sidewalk paving, and to hire a bunch of newly unemployed Iraqi Baath party secret police to be a special traffic enforcement unit.

I'd have a Bruce Gordon Touring bike. ALways thought I'd want a Litespeed. But then, for the expensive priced bikes, arent' most Litespeeds sort of mid-range expensive.

Pfft...you guys are limiting yourselves too much

Remember, you have unlimited money heh heh heh :D

In that case, I'd just buy out all the bike manufacturers I liked (Colnago, Litespeed, CDale etc etc) as well as all the professional European cycling teams. Oh, I'd also make sure to pocket Shimano's Cycling division as well as Campagnolo.

In the end, I'd likely be charged with running a monopoly...so I'd probably have to buy out the government as well :)
