If I'm really sore, I'll take a bath with Epsom salts. That's about the only time which is about twice a year.

Bath really relaxes tight sore muscles.
Not a big fan of baths for getting clean,
but a long hot tub soak. . .

My husband and I almost exclusively take baths only. If we are pressed for time, maybe a shower.

I too rediscovered the bathtub when we moved to a new apartment. Itīs wonderful letting your self down in a warm bath. I like it hot:)

I looooooooove the bath. I do a lot of the chick stuff in the bath- you know, the scented bubble bath, candles, soft music, and something to drink sometimes to help me unwind, like coffee or a wine cooler. Sometimes, I even take a bottle of champaigne and polish off about half of it before I get out of the tub. If my muscles are sore, I'll use the Epsom salts too. Sometimes I'll bring in a book too, if I know I'll be a while. It's a completely indulgent activity for me.

The other part of the time, I just take a shower- still have the scented bubble foam wash, but no drinks, no candles, and obviously, no book. Showers are for necessity, and baths are for indulging, as far as I'm concerned.

It's a 50/50 toss up as far as which one I'm going to take. I could get my groove on in either situation...

I don't fit in many bathtubs so I can probably count the number of baths I have had since I was 15 (13 years) on one hand. I hate having a bath when either my knees are out or my upper body is out. Very irratating :)

I am a shower man myself, but after long rides on cool days I like to turn up the jets in the my spa and soak for about 30 minutes. This is only after I take a shower to get the sweat & funk off, my wife would kill me if I got in dirty!

I thank God that I am so short- I could fit in just about anyone's tub.

Oh yeah, I always follow a bath with a shower. Don't feel very clean after soaking in my own filth so a bath is a total waste of water for me.

I don't take baths unless I abolutely have to. Something about marinating in butt-water just doesn't do it for me.

I read in a running book that it helps recovery after a long slow distance run to sit for awhile in a cool bath. I now do that after long rides too. Very soothing.

The last time I had a bath was a few years back whenever my roomie didn't pay the electric bill in August. It was the only way to cool off.

I mostly take showers but have a weekly "hot" bath at the end of the work week. I made sure when we built this house many years ago that we would have a 6 ft soaker tub, complete with jets, in the ensuite. We also put a similar tub, without the jets, in the main bathroom for the children when they got older, only the girls use it now.

I enjoy the bubble bath stuff, the candles, aromatherapy and the like plus the wine, cheeses, fruit and chocolate with my wife, who only stays in the bath for 10 to 15 minutes and then I kick her out (really she can only stand it for no more than 15 minutes or so and then she has to get out) and then I soak for another 2 hours after I heat up the water some. She can't understand how I can soak for that length of time. But I do my reading, usually cycle stuff and other books.

So, I'll be anticipating that soak after my ride home tonight. Gotta like it. :p

Taking a bath is like sleeping. A waste of time. Life is too short to waste sitting in one's own dirty water. Get clean and get on with life.

Antonius, do you need a second wife? I can convert to Mormen.... I need that tub! ;)

Seriously, that's a nice one. I'm hoping to have my own condo in a new hi-rise downtown by early next year, and it's the plan to have a tub just like yours.

Just bought and installeda portable "spa-in-a-box" hot tub. Does that count? I still take showers, though.

Prefere showers over baths. Unless it is in a jacuzzi tub with my wife a some romance is in order. We don't have one yet but while on vacation in the Black Hills of South Dakota the B&B we stayed at did. We took full advantage of it.

Koffee Brown, please be careful if you drink alcohol while relaxing in a soothing bath. The heat from the water and the alcohol in your system can make you so relaxed that you fall aseep. I've heard that people have drowned because of this. So please be careful.

One of the apartments I once lived in, (31st floor) had a great washroom with tiled walls and floor and an endless supply of steaming hot water. After a hard day of physical activity, my partner and I would turn the shower on hot and turn our washroom into a steam bath and soak our aching bones!

NC-

One step ahead of you! That tub is just big enough for me to fit in- my feet touch the end, so it's not as likely that I'll fall in. But I am careful- I keep the door open so it doesn't steam up so that I get all drowsy and fall asleep.

One time I did fall asleep, but I wasn't drinking, just tired. I woke up hanging over the side of the tub looking like I was auditioning for the shower scene in Psycho! Other than that, I've been ok. When I do graduate to a bigger tub, I will definitely not be drinkin' in the tub, nor will I be going in there if I'm sleepy- I'm too short for the bigger tubs right now, and I'm afraid I MAY just drown in the tub.

Thaniks for your concern. Just got out of the tub, in fact! It was a good soak.... aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh.... nice and clean, and my muscles are fully relaxed. Bedtime!

Koffee, well that's a new one, I don't think I received a proposition like that. My wife might be open to it, she always says she needs another pair of hands to help around the house.. :D

I don't know why they make those small tubs. If tubs are shorter than 6 ft, they are useless. They should be banned. I don't know why architects still include them in new designs. Kind of dumb.

And ParamountScapin, (geez, what a long name) what's wrong with sleep or resting in a tub. We do get on with life, we just need a little break once in awhile. I've done that go, go, go all the time stuff for close to twenty years. Didn't get me anywhere except further in debt, overweight and hypertension.

I've had my soak, time for bed because I have another ride in the morning with a 69 year old friend. BTW, he has been cycle-commuting since 1965, till he retired five years ago, probably one of the very few in Vancouver back in those days. Still works at putting in about 100 km a week.

Sadly I agree, but in an 80 year old house, sometimes the load bearing walls dictate all that you can do.
Im dying to renovate our bathroom, but I have to relocate the door, all the fixtures so I can manage a corner jacuzzi tub!

Oh and also install a powder room as we only have one bathroom!

But once it's done, my knee's will be submerged after long rides!

i don't think i've taken a bath in 30 years... no, that's not right... i took some medicated baths in february when i had hives from a bad allergy. don't worry, i shower every day.

i simply don't have the time to waste in a bath and, to be honest, the idea of lying in a pool of my own ditry water doesn't much appeal to me...

Well dang, velocipedio!

If we'd known all it would have taken was a talk about tub vs. shower etiquette, we would have brought this up months ago!

Welcome back!

P.S. For what it's worth, take your shower first, then enjoy your soak in the bath- use the bubble bath, since soap is an emulsifier that will pull the dirt out of the water and trap it in the soap bubbles....

Would that work for you? Try it!

That is what I usually do. Nice to soak in that hot bath, lots of bubbles and bath oil, candles, maybe some soft music.

Anyone ever see the Friends episode where Chandler really gets into baths? Funny!

No, but that Seinfeld episode where Kramer is preparing the food in the shower was really funny. Almost peed my pants laughing when I was watching it!

Don.t do that in that in the bath either Koffee :D :D
when I was a kid one night a week was bath night as I was the youngest I was the last to use the water  YUK !I now shower 2- 3 times a day :) the last time I used a bath was when my leg was in plaster! Where I work we have gas fired showers with high pressure water so they`re realy good ,before I ride home on my extented curcuit I spend about 10 mins under the shower & iits like doing a warm up , it only takes me 4-5 ks to be fully operational but from cold it takes me nearly 10 ks .
Good luck in the tub Koffee , wear a life jacket

I have a swimming pool and hot tub...so occasionally on fridays when I need to relax, I go down for a quick swim at midnight and then spend an hour sitting around in the hot tub with the jets on full blast...pretty fun and relaxing :D

otherwise, I take a shower every morning

look. this is getting out of hand here. i'm not trying to romance myself and get myself into bed or anything.

but i am always giving my children baths where i end up as wet as if i was in the bath.

my house has 3 tubs in it, so my builder must think that luxeriating in a bath is something that home buyers would want to do!!

wow... is that ever a time commitment! to be honest, i'm one of those people who sees bathing as a totally utilitarian thing. i nead to get clean; i get clean. i don't really enjoy lying in water, at whatever temperature. the shower does the job. i scrub, i wash, i'm out.

Well!

Obviously, you need to take some time for yourself and change your thinking! I think if you stopped just once and took the time to enjoy the tub, you'd change your mind.

The next time you're in the cold rain riding, and you come home aching and sore, get in the tub and take a looooooong soak and report back and let us know how you're feeling about it. I bet you'd sing a different tune...

I went many, many years with taking only showers. We moved into a new house last year with an extra-large tub and now I do a nice hot (as hot as I can stand it) bath at least once a week -- really relaxing and helps me sleep at night when I'm tensed up or really tired from working in the yard...

the point is that i really just don't like lying in water... and since there are a finite number of hours in the day, i would have to take my soaking time from something else. if i do a 3 hour ride, and then lie in the bath for an hour, i'm down four hours. i could do a two hour ride and soak for an hour, but i'd rather ride.

Who needs them? Just put on clean clothes and slap on more deoderant and cologne.

Once a month peel off the layer of crust along with a bit of dead skin and you are good to go.

Think of the water you will be conserving. People will leave you alone also.
