This was a fun ride last year. A bit pricey at $100, but it includes a jersey (which was as nice as any other ride jersey I've purchased) and a few other goody bag items. The support was good last year, food was good for a 70 mile ride. Only downside was they ran out of water at the rest stop in Camp Pendleton on the second loop. They were getting more, but it meant either waiting or going without re-filling (It was 55 miles into a 70 mile route and I had already re-filled, so it wasn't a huge deal for me).

But they had "unofficial" water stops along the way, too, where volunteers were handing out bottles along the course.

The chip timing up the hill is a cool feature to measure yourself against other riders. You get to go through a section of Camp Pendleton that's not on the regular bike route.

Don't know if I'll make this one - there are a couple of other rides already on that date, but I might, just to see if I can beat my time up that hill.

sounds like a fun ride and a good hill challenge. Tha hill sounds like my training hill near my house (9-10% grade for .98 miles)

Unfortunatly, the guys that are organiazing the MTB races for this yr have NOT yet posted the race date, so I can't make plans after April 1st.

I have been thinking about doing this route myself. How was the competition?

I have been thinking about doing this route myself. How was the competition?Well, I was in the middle of the pack, so nobody was really competing around me. Just a fun ride.

The only timed part of it is the brief hill climb (10.4% over 1/2 mile). I did it in just under 4 min (I was not in great shape at the time) and I think I was right around #100 or so out of about 1200 riders? The top rider did it in something like 2:32 or so.

Yeah, I did this last year. I did the 40. I enjoyed it quite a bit and I want to do it again this year. I was hoping to find someone to ride with this year...I almost got lost at the end with so many turns. :) I usually ride solo on my weekend rides...keep meaning to go to San Fernando bike club rides on the weekends but I never can seem to get up in time.

This sounds like fun. I'll try to fit in on the calendar.
