Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey...
LA wheelmen is having back to back centuries next weekend...Jan 27-28 starting in Thousand Oaks.
Here is the some info plus the website..
http://www.lawheelmen.org/
Saturday & Sunday, January 27 - 28 - 7:30 a.m. each day + JANUS SEQUENTIAL CENTURIES. (101 miles & about 5000 feet of gain each day) Two centuries in two days, both starting at the same location and each is the reverse of the other. (Janus - the god January was named for, looked both directions + to the past and future + so we ride this route both directions + does that make sense?) The routes cover much of the same territory as the Highland Grand Tour loop, but, unlike the Grand Tour, these are unsupported. You can ride either day and real riders will do both (we don’t get many of those). Saturday we travel over Erbes to Moorpark, over Grimes Cyn to Santa Paula and up to Ojai over Dennison. From Ojai it’s down to the coast and back to the start with only one more climb + Potrero!! One of the most feared climbs in Southern California and you hit it at almost the 90 mile mark. Sunday, we do the reverse which means going down Potrero, and therefore it always seems a little easier (though each day has the same total elevation gain). This will count as your Century of the Month for January. These rides are perfect if you have plans to do the Butterfield Double in a few weeks or Death Valley in March. START: CROWLEY HOUSE PARK in THOUSAND OAKS. From Ventura Frwy (101), off & north on Hampshire Rd, L - Thousand Oaks Blvd (at T) for ½ mile, L - Oakview and L - Pleasant Way to Park. For further information: Rod Doty (310) 838-0843.
Interesting. Sunday centuries always catch my attention.
[e] Not this coming Sunday, unfortunately.
What one(s) will you be doing Karen ?

Thanks, Karen, for the info. I'll be doing the ride down to San Diego on Sat and a charity ride on Sunday (I think that is this Sunday). Otherwise, I'd be very interested. I love the LA Wheelman guys. Their rides are always great and their personalities so laid back. Have fun! :)

 Riding Stagecoach really did you no good. :( I hope you feel better soon, Karen. Better to take off and heal up than get any sicker. No wonder you didn't feel well! AND you finished all 100 miles! You're tough, lady. Take care.

oops...:o It's in February. Guess I can't use that excuse, huh? But I'm not sure I can do 100 miles after 150 mile ride (which I am doing this Saturday). Although...hmmm. Maybe??? :D Anyone want to weigh in? Anyone want to be my personal SAG, medical emergency team, priest to say last rights over my cold, dead body? :p

I'm no priest but I can do the last rights over your cold, stiff, wet, possibly run over and stripped of your cycling clothes... body. Oh yeah and you gotta know the bike is gone too.

Hi John!
I am still thinking about it, most likely I will...can't pass it up, the start point is less then 3 miles from my house!!!
I haven't done this ride before, some of the route I have done and it is not too bad...quite nice though Ojai, then Ventura...
Just a bit more climbing then we did @ Stagecoach, one major climb @ mile 90 is up Potero which
is quite steep BUT not too long as I far as I know.
Let me know if you wanna ride....!
I will be riding to the start!
Thanks!
Karen

It is "only" like what 12%?? Actually I have never done it, BUT I would rather climb in then descend it!!
Why aren't you doing this ride Adam? It is sooo close to you!

i've only descended potrero.... (including one time when it was wet!) and i'm the opposite... i'm always glad to be going down and not UP it! lol! it seems like a pretty long descent to me.... but i guess length is relative!

I'm thinking of doing the 160 mile Valley to San Diego ride that day.
If I was going to do the Janus ride, I would probably opt to do the Sunday ride as I like Sundays route a little better.

I am out of this ride unfortunatly :( :(
I am JUST now getting over having Bronchitis and a Sinus Infection for the past two weeks,
so I don't think it is a good idea to go out and do a century right now!
I will do my regular Agoura Cycles ride!!
Karen
Up for a Santa Barbara ride this Saturday Karen ?
