Got the chance to ride with a few members again. Met a couple of JustMe's buds. We started at Imperial while Isits started at Greenriver for a few extra. Headed down to the beach with the wind which later we discussed and came up with a guess of about 30 mph. Nice fun ride to the beach but torture on the return. Didn't get the shots that I would have liked to get cause the wind was too strong and I wasn't about to let go of the bars too many times.
Once at the beach, JustMe and his two buds split for a bite to eat. We just hung at the rest stop for a few then left. Did happen to get a glance of Octico on the beachpath too. All the happy faces I saw on the way to the beach soon took a turn, and not for the better with the big HEADWIND we faced. Gina kicked butt on the way to the beach. Even made a break from the group for a bit. Oh but did she suffer on the return. Let's just say, it wasn't one of her better days!:o
A few of the guys went a ahead while I stayed back to help her fight the wind. About half way there, I just had to let her go to do her own pace as there wasn't much anyone could do with the wind seeming to come from all directions. It was windy!
I'm wondering how JustMe and his buds did on the return. One of the guys (PMC) from the "Bicycling" forum showed up with his brother Donny. Both were great riders and did very well. Different forums, different riders, riding together! Could this be a meeting of the worlds?:D
It was cool to go out and ride with a few of the others.:D

That was a fun day. On the way down the beach I was averaging about 21 mph, but on the way back it was different story. I met chuck5.2 at the beach and we decided ride back together. Right from the start the wind was STRONG. For the first 2 miles we were going about 10mph. After realizing the my jacket was acting as sail we picked up our pace. Once we got going we were able to maintain a good speed (14-16 mph). I saw Beanz,Gina, and the Birthday boy on the way back.

We had a good time, and a good group. And ya, we struggled with the wind,

I think we averaged 20+ to the beach, and I think I averaged 9-11 back...:eek:

Nice to have met up with everyone this morning, and yes, the return trip was a bit of a struggle wasn't it? Yata yata yata.:D :D Who said today was a good day for a trip to the beach anyway?? Fortunately the wind wasn't straight on until about the last 5 miles into Yorba Linda, and as usual, the closer to that gap down from Green River you get, the stronger the winds gets. But boy, that push to the beach is worth the fun coming back.:)
Hope to meet up with you guys again sometime in the near future. BTW Beans, as usual, thanks for the great pics to document the event guy.:)

Chuckie was trying to make it to the Beach and back in time for kickoff...and he failed miserably. MAny thanks to Octico for pulling 80% on the way back but damn the wind really picked up after Kraemer. I swear I was going backwards through the Santa Ana Canyon ! My wife thought I was nutz to be out there !!
