Anyone in my area know a good route for a century. I know Mr. Beanz lives close. Beanz, I need you. :D Next weekend is my last chance to get in my 100. Any suggestions?
I could just map out a 100, but I'm hoping for some good ideas..

Well, a good question is do you want the start/finish to be the same location? Or could you have someone pick you up at a remote location? And how much climbing are you willing to do? :)
What i'm thinking for a century i might attempt someday is to ride out to Mt. Rubidoux then down to Huntington Beach. Should be close to 100 miles with 3 fairly large climbs and then i can just go back and forth along the beach to get the extra miles to reach the 100 mile mark. However i'd be having someone pick me up at the beach.
On Friday I am doing my solo attempt for January - The teacher inservice ride :)
Mission out to Pomona, back through chino hills, magnolia, Riverside, Redlands and Home - 105 - 108 miles with a metric option if I am not quite ready...
There is almost unlimited ideas for centuries in the i.e. - I wanted as little elevation gain, but then you can climb lytle creek, baldy, corona, etc - and Mt. Rubidoux is also good - I will be up there tomarrow evening!
Good Luck,
Mandy\
BTW I would love to do a metrolink century - to downtown LA, then back on the train!

Well, my two cents? Jump on one of the LA Wheelman rides that Karen posted for next weekend. You'll be pampered, meet other riders and have a blast. I know those rides may not be "in your area" - but you won't find better organizers (SAG, Volunteers, etc.) than those guys. You'll get your first century in and have a nice experience - in lieu of trying to map out a solo (i.e. lonely) route of your own. Again, just my two cents! :)
Riding "other club" centuries always scare me - mainly because the groups will generally be together and if you are slow you might end up without SAG, etc. If you are fast no problem - but solo and mass organized centuries seem more apealing to me - ride at your own pace!

Mandy, the LA Wheelman are organized even on their training rides, etc. Granted I'm female, but I've never known them to drop anyone or leave anyone. He's better off with other riders than SOLO (in which case there is no SAG, etc. - not to mention the issue of finding a route). Also, I've ridden with Scott. He isn't any slower than I am. I stick to my original advice.

I used to ride out your way from Orange County. Go to www.bikely.com and put Ontario in for location. I input the route I used to get to Hesperia one weekend. Well the 53 miles f rom Ontario to Hesperia that is.

I like to climb, but I don't want to be picked up. I thought about doing using SART for a big chunk of the miles except I get really bored. I was thinking of riding from my house in Ont. (15 & 60 fwy) up yo R.C. West towards glendora up GMR down to East fork to 39 and back to Ont.
Almost did it last Sunday but it was too cold... I ended up on Gmr with M.E. and vertical Bob.

HMmmmm. I might feel wierd showing up to ride with them. Maybe I'm just strange. I prefer riding with others but I really don't mind riding alone either. I'll have to think about. Thanks for your two cents :D

All good ideas...
For what it's worth, LA Wheelman organizes Grand Tour (Lite), too. I did GTL in Sept, and markw and I started a bit late since we got there a bit late. We were in the back group for the highland century route for the entire day--we didn't catch anyone else doing the highland century until the lunch stop halfway through, and then we caught only two other people the rest of the way--but well supported the entire way. I know it's supposed to be an unsupported ride this coming weekend, so don't expect the roaming SAG to check on you every 5-10 miles, but I wouldn't worry about not keeping up with a group when riding with them.
I've done a solo century before, and I generally prefer a modest amount of company. But as discussed in your other century thread, it's a different type of experience. Not necessarily better or worse. Just different. All depends on what you're after. My solo century and my solo Palomar repeats (70 miles, three climbs of Palomar) are two of my most memorable rides, but I also really enjoy sharing the century experience with cool people.

We've done Pomona to the beach and back, that was about 80, a few more from Ontario.
Riverside Dr. to Peyton Dr.-Grand Avenue(climbing)-Diamond Blvd-Brea Cyn-Lambet-Kramer down to the SART-to Huntington Beach-
Return:
Sart to Kramer-Kramer to Lambert-Lambert thru Carbon Cyn(climbing)-ChinoHillsPkway-Peyton -Riverside Drive ack to Ontario
ONce you get back to Peyton Drive, yo can do Grand Avenue thru ChinoHills to the 10 fwy.-right on Holt Avenue(don't confuse with Holt BLVD)-Holt to CovinaHills Pkyway(climbing)-to Via Verde(climbing) to Raginwaters, then back home via Baselin or Foothil or any other backstreets if desired.
