how far does the steerer tube need to go into the stem. i am looking at purchasing a jr t, but the steerer is only .25 inches longer then mine and im afraid i will not be able to put the titec blockhead on because the topcap bolt wont reach the starnut as on my current fork. i was thinking i could use a headlock type device and not have to worry about that, but then i realized that the steerer might not be far enough into the stem.

what do you think?

thanks

The top of the tube should be about 3 or 4 mm from the top of the stem. Just low enough so the cap will fit but high enough to get a good clamp from the stem.

I have run steerer tubes that only went half way into the stem but it is unnerving.

If the tube is a bit too long just go get some spacers from your LBS to get it right. If it is too short you can remove any spacers that are there.

yea, if anything, it will be too short even without spacers.

It is possible to get a new tube put on the forks and if you are getting a sweet deal it might be the way to go.

I recently bought a used fork. With no spacers installed, my steerer tube is about 6 mm to short with the stem mounted on it from being flush with the top of the stem.

Is this OK???

it will work.

3mm is ideal, 6mm will work just fine.

Don't know the stack height on that stem, but maybe you could buy a stem with a lower stack height?
