yeah yeah yeah, you just don't want to drive anywhere! ;)

We can meet at the Paradise Hills Park-n-Ride (Address: 22222 US Hwy 40, Golden Location: I-70 @ exit 256) , head north to Lookout, up Lookout, down Hwy 40 (Mt Vernon Canyon Rd, alongside I70), then head south towards Red Rocks and come back north via the C470 trail. It'd be a great figure 8 with some significant climbing....

what do you kids think?

Sounds good to me. Although I think I'll have to break out the triple this time. Starting between 11am-Noon will give us the best chance at decent temps, but just about any start time on Sundays is OK with me.

Is everyone cool with starting at noon then??

I get ants in my pants and just want to go, go, go. :)

BM, if you stop by Westside you should tell Kyle to join us. I can also give him a call too??

I can swing by there tomorrow, he's off today. (I already tried to call there! :p )

We'll miss ya!! :) Have fun doing whatever your doing. Hope its not going up to the hills cause isn't this President's Weekend??

going skiing Friday with work folks, but I got too much other shizzy to do the rest of the weekend :(

bmclaughlin807

So... Superdex is out, want me to prepare a route? I can even print up some route slips. :) I've got a couple route maps, just have to customize them for our start/end. Is that Park 'n Ride good for everyone?

snowy
02-13-07, 03:23 PM
I know the area like the back of my hand. Only lived in Colorado hmmmm like 32 years. :)

I'm cool if you want to make a route though. Include Lookout mountain. The boyfriend is going to ride up Lookout with us on his singlespeed mtb.:D

I'm also cool with the park and ride if it works for everyone else. :)

Yes, but maybe everyone else doesn't. Especially when we get broken up into two groups. I was towards the front and knew where we were going for the most part, but a route slip would have been nice. Add the fact that we didn't actually follow the route as it was drawn, and it added a little more confusion. :)

Also, regroup points? Some set points to regroup would probably be good. I figure at a minimum the base of Lookout Mountain, The top (Buffalo Bill Museum or whatever it is?) and Red Rocks Park.

Lemme know what you want, and I'll have a route set up, maps, route slips, whatever. It's easy, and like I told Kyle the other night, if I'm not on my bike I'm at the computer. :p

snowy
02-13-07, 03:42 PM
That all sound great. I agree I like the route slips and the meeting points. I think I'll be pulling the caboose up lookout anyhoo. :)

I'm going to be leaving work in like 10 minutes and headed to the dreadful gym. I'll get on later tonight.

BM, do your magic and anyone else feel free to chime in :)

I should be good for either, but may have to bow out of any hard climbing sections --- I've got a bundle of nerves in my lower back that feel like they're going to explode when I'm out of the saddle.

Ok, check it out: http://www.routeslip.com/routes/21834 (Ok, it's not loading for me, either at the moment, but hopefully they'll get things fixed soon.)

31.6 miles, 3,963 ft of climbing (I know, it seems like a lot, but that's the route that was suggested...)

Comments? Lemme know... This is for the ride on Feb. 18th!

Hey Dex, you working on bringing us Covered Bridge riders out there this season. Don't know if I'd actually be able to make it, but I do have a Niece living in Golden, so accomodations wouldn't be difficult. :D
Might be doing some skiing this weekend. We're finally getting some serious snowfall here in S.W. PA. Not the 4 - 5 feet variety you get, more like 8 - 10 inches, but still fun to go play around in.

Yeah, what Snowy said. Spin it out in your granny gear, you'll last longer that way! We're not racing (Despite what Kyle says!)

OK, if you & Snowy say so :) .

Thanks for planning that route. Is it for the 18th or 25th? It looks like the big climb (~mile 4-8.5) is about 4.5 miles and 1550' of gain --- that's a semi-formidable avg. grade of 6.5%. I'll be spinning.

Oh yeah --- you're going to be a rocket ship when you get on bike that's around 20 lbs!

Hrmm... I don't like that the route goes over the same stretch of highway 3 times between the park 'n ride and 26...

Anybody ever ride Grapevine through Genessee to Bear Creek? We could drop down on that and into Red Rocks...

Or, rather than make a figure-8 we could go through Redrocks first then Lookout Mtn ( Like this (http://www.teamevergreen.org/road_ridesfilesandsubpages/ROAD_RIDE_PDFS/MorLOMRedRocksLoop.pdf) ), but people would probably be more tired. Bah... I've decided I hate planning routes. :p

And I've come to the decision that both RouteSlip.com AND bikely.com suck. :(

I'm basically up for whatever route is planned, as long as it's not full of stoplights. But yeah, planning routes can be a pain as all the route planning sites suck in way way or another -- but at least they're free.

Have you ever used http://www.toporoute.com/routePlanner.html ? It doesn't give step by step directions when you're done, but it's fairly simple to use. When you're done mapping the route, click the "Link to Route" button and it creates a url for your route.

Ok, for Snowy and Pwnt:

Be at Paradise Hills Park 'n Ride(Location: I-70 @ exit 256) at Noon on the 18th. Follow the other bikes.

*ducks and runs*

Sorry, not trying to confuse people. We'll stick to the figure-8 that Superdex suggested, ok? I'll post up the route map and route slip at lunchtime.

I routed this ride today from a book ("Road Biking Colorado, a great book) and hope to scout it out in the next week or so.

There are two locations that LOOK like Park 'n Rides on satellite views, but they're not claimed as such on RTD's site... I didn't want to take a chance with parking in what might be a private lot (Or rather, chance that one of YOU would park in a private lot :p ) and get ticketed and/or towed. :(

Last time I was over Grapevine (2004 or so), it was dirt from I70 to Bear Creek. Probably not very good riding for skinnys. And it tends to be shaded so it's gonna be messy...muddy, icy, etc.

We need more hills Mang!

If we do the Red Rocks / Morrison Loop afterwards, it'll total about 4,000 ft of climbing. Is that enough for you?

Or, hell... do the reverse Lookout Mountain loop ... The climb is supposed to be steeper than Lookout Mtn itself... Lookout Mtn Rd was built to MINIMIZE the grade.
