Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Jelly Belly Sport Beans anyone use them?

Anyone ever use the Sports Beans??? Looking for something a little better to use on my long rides. I have used the power bars ect, but I have to slam 8 oz of fluid with those and at the hours I ride, sometime it's hard to find someplace open to replenish liquid. I used the gels and wasn't a fan, the bars are also hard as a rock when it is cold and too gooey when it is hot, next up Sports Beans.
Also if you have, what flavors do you like?

I like em! Actually, I like them too much! They are convenient though, if you can keep to nibbling enough to replenish glucose and not go whole hog!
I just can't make myself associate jelly beans and fitness. It seems like a slippery slope I don't want to be on.

I hear ya, I have the same problem.

They're pretty good. Salty/sweet, a bit like eating gatorade-flavored jellybeans. You still need to down fluid with them.

The gels need a fluid chaser too!

Yea, but is the fluid requirement as big with the beans as it is with the bars and gels??

Out of curiosity, what do you consider a long ride? I've done plenty of centuries and frankly, jelly beans would be the least of my worries. I'd have a bar, and plenty of fluid, no matter what. Even a turkey sandwich at about 70 miles.
If you're doing a century without an ample fluid/water source, you shouldn't be doing it!
I'd save the jelly beans for a movie and some popcorn!:p

Well at my current level of riding a long ride to me is 30 miles or more. My typical ride is about 12 to 20 during the week and I try and do something longer on the weekends. I'm not up to the real long distances yet, but I have a goal to do a metric century by the end of March. I try and stay well hydrated drinking 16 oz per hour minimum in cool temps and 24 in warm temps. My longest ride to date is 45 miles and I had a powerbar during the ride, but I guess I'm not real sure what my food requirements are yet as I have never really needed more than a bar here and there on any of my longer rides. I guess this is where riding with a group would come in handy. :D

Hey man, you did 45? You can do 100! Eat a bar at about 30-40, then something solid at 60-75(sandwich). You will tire at about 70-80, but if you eat something solid, at 90, you will feel like you did at 40.
I drink water and Gatorade along the way. Not too much Gatorade or your stomache will cramp from the sugar.
It's all about keeping the body hydrated and fueled!:D

I can get to the Jelly Belly (TM) factory store and buy what they call Belly Flops. Flawed and distorted beans. At a tiny price per kilo compared to what others pay for "sports Beans" . All flavors mixed together. Not that I do either. A couple of jelly sandwiches using whole grain bread does the trick for me.

Peanut M&Ms. They *still* don't melt in your hand. Peanuts=a bit of protein and slow carb; the chocolate=sugar. Seriously. A small handfull, say 6-8 M&Ms, is about the same mass as an average bar. I always feel ready for more about three minutes after I toss 'em back. Then again, they've been comfort food since age five, so it could simply be psychosomatic. But I eat far fewer of them riding then I did when sitting on the couch! But yeah, they *really* require being chased with water.

I really like the orange sport beans although I havent tried all the flavors yet
Sadly, I can not eat one or two pieces of candy. I have to avoid it completely. I can look at it and ignore it, but one piece in my mouth and Katey bar the door. I'm a binge eater and sweets are my downfall. So, I too see it as a slippery slope...
I generaly use gel packs or energy bars, if necessary.
thanks for evryones input.

They taste great, but it seemed like the carbs were mostly simple sugar... I think you would be likely to have a crash from them after a while if that is the case.
