you mean besides a hammer and a 2x4?
a large bolt, two large nuts, two large washers.
or if you're feeling fancy, you can make a hardware store trip out of it:

For a fork race I use a piece of PVC pipe and tap the race on. The PVC won't damage the race.

+1. Then you can resurface the PVC for the next crown race.

you are absolutely correct. i didn't read very carefully, sorry op.
pvc or copper pipe
I use a punch but I am also very careful and I am also a metal worker type guy
its hard to find a peice of pipe thats a tad bit bigger than the 1" steerer tube on the fork.
not really just bring the race in and match it up

I think I use a 1 3/4" or similar.
it might be smaller than 1 3/4", pipe is measured from the inside. there's definitely a size that works perfectly with 1" forks. I have a chunk at my parents'.

I used standard white PVC pipe, about 2 feet of it. Also handy as a cheater bar.

Two words: headset spacer. The way I look at it, there's a reason why the kit I bought had a 1" tall spacer I'll never use.
