Type: Century

Number of Riders: See web site for rider limit

Organizer: Channel Islands Bicycle Club

Rating: 4

Comments on SAG support and Rest Stops: Good food at rest stops, variety of fruits, bars, cookies, trail mix, etc. Good lunch stop with sandwich meats, cheeses, etc. Water and lemonade / Gatorade at all stops. Popsicles at last stop! Only century that I've done where you can gain weight. ;)

Comments on the route: Route is good but there is a fair amount of traffic throughout. Roads are generally well marked with painted chevrons at each turn and road surfaces are fair to good. About 4,700 ft of climbing on last year's century route.

Maybe if it hadn't been my first century I'd be more judicious, but I can't think of a thing wrong with it in memory. Lots of food at stops, cheering spectators (!), lovely scenery, esp. above Montecito and SB in the hills. Speaking of which, every time I stopped to catch my breath on a climb, a sag van slowed to ask if I needed help.

All the riders were in a terrific mood. It was a great century, though hilly enough to be a challenge to a first-timer.

Comments on SAG support and Rest Stops: I did not notice the roaming sag all that much....maybe once or twice on the whole ride. Rest stops were well equipped and spaced adequately, no complaints there.

Comments on the route: Nice, scenic route, a bit hilly (8,500+ ft) for my fixed gear ratio I chose for the climbs, especially CALI Hill at the 90 mile mark was a killer, and barely made it to the top.....but on the other hand I didn't want to spin crazy like a mad man on the descents.
This double metric route was much more scenic than the century route as we immediately turned inland heading towards Ojai and Casitas Pass. The fire station rest stop at Lake Casitas was very nice. I'm definitely doing this ride again, but using a real bike this time....:D

I'd say 4. I'll echo the comment on using roads with too much traffic. Everything was well marked and SAG support and food were good. My "not so great" moment was having to turn around and assist the older gentleman who crashed behind me - who was later arrested at the hospital for DUI...on his bike.

no...I'm not kidding.

Comments on SAG support and Rest Stops: (what food was provided, SAG support presence etc.)Rest stops are fairly well stocked. First stop on the Century route is about 14 miles in. SAG is evident with vehicles marked. Lunch break at 55 miles has lots of food, from deli platters to chips to everything! Plenty of benches to eat at. There are bike shops represented at each RS for mechanical issues. The meal at the end of the ride is outstanding with enough food to satisfy a hungry rider!

Comments on the route: (constructive thoughts, ideas, favorite aspects, etc.)This is a great ride. With so many riders, you are never out there alone! Plenty of conversation, pacelines if you want them and a wide range of skills, from beginners to racers. The final leg back to Ventura from Rincon is flat which makes for a quick sprint to the finish and a strong showing.
