can anyone tell me what the deal is with this little bit of rubber tube?
everytime i fix a flat, i wonder what it is, and vow to find out, then forget all about it. fixed a flat today, and decided it really was time to get to the bottom of it.
its listed on the side of the box, but makes no appearance in the instructions.
thanks.

Tire boot? Slip it into a cut/severely punctured tire and it'll maybe get you home, or even last until you can snag a new tire.

It's for repairing Dunlop valves. I remember seeing my uncle repairing Dunlop valves on his bike, when I was a little kid. Don't remember anymore exactly how he did it, but it involved spit.

Yeah- I'm not sure why those are still included in modern kits. You won't be seeing a dunlop valve these days (unless you're buying an old old bike)

Spit is involved but not included in most patch kits. :D
