My wife and I are in our mid-thirties, and have two wonderful daughters - 6 and 3 years old. We have never seriously ridden bikes, and haven't ridden at all in +/- 20 years.

Our oldest has sparked our interest. We told her we would buy her a new bike when she could ride her 12" bike w/o training wheels. So the other weekend we took the training wheels off, and told her to have at it in the back yard. Within one hour she was riding like a champ. So several bike shop visits later, and we bought our 3 year old a Schwinn, our 6 year-old a 20" Giant Taffy, and my wife a Ladies' 2003 Trek Navigator 200.

I was all set on buying a Navigator 200 for myself, but when we learned we couldn't attach a standard child's seat(gift from friend), it was back to square one.... Haven't had time to decide on a bike for me yet.... Any recommendations?

Anyway, that's how we got here. I'm looking forward to this becoming a healthy family activity(my wife and oldest got up bright and early this morning for a ride), and participating in this forum....

Whoa--

You're a family man! Have you thought about getting a Burley trailer (www.burley.com) for your kids? I think you can attach them to almost every bike. Do a check for the burley bike in the search, or just scroll through the Commuting to see what other people with kids are doing.

It's good to see some new addicts getting into cycling. Starting them off young is great too- hopefully, the kids will stick with it for the cycling too through their lifetime!

As for you, it's never too late for you to get started again. I bet in no time, you'll be standing outside the bike shop windows salivating over that new, top-of-the-line, road bike in no time!

;)

Welcome!

Good advice innerplanetaryman.
Now all that aside which shop are you visiting? Agee's, Rowletts I heard Two Wheel Travel closed down so that option is out. I reccomend a Chromoly framed hybrid or entry level ATB. Reason being is that most have rack mounts and the frame will easily accept a child seat, and will be durable enough to hold it.
