I checked my email this afternoon and found 19 messages from E-Bay telling me that I was selling something that looked like porn pictures. I logged onto E-Bay and found out that someone hacked onto my account but they caught it and corrected the problem. Well that blows! I changed my password to E-Bay and Paypal so I guess I'm ok. The credit card they supposedly accessed was canceled awhile ago.

I hate those stupid porn pictures that are constantly on eBay these days. Any idea how they got in? Did you respond to any emails or enter that password anywhere?

Another note, if you are like most people you use similar log-ons and passwords for many web pages. Whoever hacked you can and will try that same combo at every major bank's web page. If you use the same log-on/password anywhere else I would consider changing it.

I use a 26 character randomly generated PW on any site where I use any financial stuff....or as many characters as they'll allow if less than 26. It's a random mix of letters, numbers and punctuation, so while it's not impossible, it's pretty difficult to crack. PW file is kept in our safe as well, so not that I have a huge amount of assets, but I want to keep what I have! Fortunately, Ebay and their Safeharbor program are prety good. Did you answer an email asking about your ebay account recently before this occurence?

That really sucks. Sorry to hear that.

I change mine every few months, but I haven't changed my ebay one in a bit.

I haven't changed my PW in a while for ebay, but it is the only place I use that PW. I have different for each of my bank, paypal, etc and never use the same one(s) for other websites, email, etc. And work log-ins have another set of PW's that I cycle through.

Well I just changed the passwords on all my bank accounts. I should have done this along time ago. Yea, I was one of those guys who used the same password for everything and it was just a name. Well, now it's mixed up pretty good.

I started a separate checking account I use ONLY for paypal. It sits empty 99% of the time.

Mine was taken over once. I have government style passwords as well. All it takes it getting fooled by one single spam email or maybe a fake link from within an auction. I just contacted ebay and they restored it.
