Hey all. I live in Alexandria, VA(although soon to be Arlington, VA). I ride my bike mainly to commute. I started off riding my bike to the Metro(local subway system in the DC area) as a means of avoiding taking the bus to the Metro, as the buses around here are slow and never on time. I still ride my bike to the Metro a majority of the time, but more and more I am riding my bike all the way in to my job in DC via the Mt. Vernon Trail. I'm still pretty new to cycling though, have just picked it up again recently after not doing it since I was a kid. I hope to pick up some good knowledge from some of you more experienced cyclists.

Hello NOVAcyclist, it's always good to see another bike commuter, and you are lucky you can get there on the Mt. Vernon Trail. What kind of ride have you got?

Check out the Northeast regional forum, too:

Thanks for the welcome. So far I have just been using an old 70's Azuki bike that a friend who wasn't using it anymore gave me. It's not that great, but it gets the job done. Maybe somewhere down the road I might look at buying a more serious commuter bike...
