It is a good article. I really hope L.A. explodes as the cycling mecca it deserves to be.
My favorite line from the article
"My whole life is about the bicycle," she said. "I have to work to make time for anything else. I dream about this stuff."
I have strayed from that a little, I need to get back to that mindset. And I don't mean racing or anything, just for the sheer enjoyment of it.

Yep - I've rediscovered that over the past couple of months. And riding with the BF group has helped that tremendously. I like the rides with the folks here -
I'm going to start commuting to work via bike at least once a week (on Wednesdays so I can make the Griffith Park ride after work, then head home). Now that I have decent lights, I feel more comfortable riding in the winter (during the summer last year I rode to work once or twice a week).
On a side note - does anyone remember the movie "Americathon?" I was just an early teen when it came out, but I still remember the opening visuals of thousands of people in LA riding on the freeways (basically, in the film, America was broke and there was no more oil so everyone rode bikes).
One of the earliest scenes (just before the bike riding scene and opening credits).
DJ banter:
And now the weather. Beautiful beach day if you can get there! Freeway condition's heavy. This report brought to you by Magic Seat! The bicycle seat that fits you like a glove, and grabs you like a friend! And now, here they are, still going strong after 40 years, the Beach Boys!

I haven't heard of the movie. I'm not surprised - it starred John Ritter (as the president), Harvey Korman and Fred Willard waaaay back in 1979. Not a huge film.

We need more bike lanes.

Tonight, Bush is going to call for a 20% reduction in gasoline usage by 2017. I bet he does not even mention bicycle commuting. Rather, just something else to burn in cars.

well it would if the front rider was riding through a yellow light and leading the next 150-250 riders through the red...

Though I totally agree -- don't let the "Advocacy & Safety" dogmatists hear you say that! They're kinda crazy over there.
