The Livestrong Challenge will be in Portland the weekend of 29th-30th
Get the checkbooks ready....
And by the way it will be in September...
No more running or walking, just biking. Did anyone ride it last year? I did the first year and it was my first "long" ride at 70 miles. Long day and many lessons learned. I did it as a support bike mechanic, helped a few people that had flatted or had problems with their bikes.

I just signed up for the 40 mile ride. I guess I can change the distance to 70 later, if I feel like I can do it.

I did the 70 last year after no training time at all (bought the bike on Sunday, signed up on Monday, rode on Sunday). Did it in my goal of 5 hours too. I think I will make my decision on which distance (70 or 100) when I see the course.

I rode the LAF ride out in Austin, TX in 2005. It was a great ride with a lot of spirit! The support was awesome. The route organizers were quite nice to have all the hills in the last five miles - nothing like fighting 20+ MPH winds for 30 miles and then some killer hills in the last couple miles of a century. I hope that the PDX Livestrong is equally as challenging.

I have done 100 the last two years. I hope we have a better route this year than last. I was able to ride a little over 20 miles with Lance and his trainer Greg last year. I need to post some of the pics. Looking forward to this year.

What was the route like?

The route had a lot of out and back - looping areas even with some crossing of other riders. The head wind back to the finish along the columbia wasn't much fun either.

I didn't mind the headwind as much as I thought I would. It had been years since I had ridden Marine Drive and coming back at 2:00 it wasn't hard at all (after riding the 70 mile route).

I have done the R for the R in Austin and let me tell you its hot but our hills are much more of a torment. I think last years headwinds down Marine Drive were the beoootch of the party-but the beer was good. Look forward to this year with the organizers of the Tour of Cali at the helm.

Odd.......I thought it was the worst beer I'd tasted (besides Bud, Miller, Coors, etc)

I don't think Bud would ever taste good. http://www.theragsdalefamily.com/smilies/Laugh.gif

They've got a brief course description up on the website. Looks like it goes up to Bald Peak which I hear is pretty steep, with grades up to the mid teens or something. Anyone know the grade / distance on that climb? I don't normally train on hills that steep, but there are a few around that I can add to my routes in prep for this ride.

I rode as medical support on the 100 the first year and am doing it again this year. Sounds like the course is going to be pretty similar to the first year. The bald peak section is tough its a pretty steep grade don't know the numbers but I am sure some one does. Luckily I got smart and put a compact crankset on the bike last year. We never saw Lance the first year except at the start but I heard allot of people got to ride with him last year.

Bump.
Two weeks. I'm coming up from Los Angeles for this one and to see some friends. Is the weather at all predictable up there?

And I was trying to avoid invoking Murphy. Good thing I didn't post what I originally typed, you'd be in a monsoon. I get the point though, bring rain gear.

Ahh, just misting, but you get the point seeing how it was 90 degrees on Tuesday. Today was perfect riding weather when it wasn't misting. You'll be fine with arm/leg warmers. I just wish I was in good enough shape (and in town) to do the ride...
