Hi,

Is there anyone out there using gmail? At the moment the only way to get an account if you are in the UK is to be invited by someone that already holds an account.

I don't suppose there'd be a gmail user out there willing to invite me onto the service would there? Please?

Thanks in advance.

Anybody that needs invitations to gmail, PM me.

I use gmail for when you have to give an email address for registering etc.

I have another one that a cycling buddy in florida uses the chat feature for.

Once upon a time, gmail was the cool thing - if you had it, you didn't need it. If you didn't have it, you couldn't get any - and you needed it to get more, which you didn't need if you already had it. If you have it, you don't need it. If you need it, you don't have it. If you have it, you need more of it. If you have more of it, you don't need less of it. You need to get it. And you certainly need it to get more of it. But if you already don't have any of it to begin with, you can't get any of it to get started, which means you really have no idea how to get it, do you?

Then, all of a sudden, everyone had it and it wasn't cool any more.

Thanks KingTermite.

It was easy to open an gmail account.
It appears to have some interesting features. The online word documents might come in handy for me.

If anyone wants to try gmail, give me a PM.
I've got heaps of invites to give away.

I don't need another e-mail address, but are there other useful features available with a Google account?

I use their online-calendar and it's shared with my friends so we can schedule events together easily.

Gmail is by far the most superior email in the universe, and I hate my old accounts. Coolest features are labels, search options, and just how darn organized it is. Humongous storage space is also nice. If you don't have it, get it- you'll never regret it. Moving your contacts with gmail is super-simple too- be happy to explain if anyone is interested. I'd also like to put in a plug for Google's other awesome and free stuff, especially Picasa which organizes your photos.

I remember a few years ago, Gmail invites were for sale on eBay...

Me too. I love the calendar it helps me pay bills on time. I don't share it though. I also use there online word processor and spread sheets. My Gmail space is up to 3GB now. I also love the archive and search ability of all your mail.

I used to be against it because of the advertising and what not but then I gave it a try and found out how good it is. Funny thing is I don't even notice the adverts though I am aware that on a subconscious level they probably get to me :(

But still its sort of just the price you have to pay for a really neat 'free' service.

I have 6 gmail accounts with 100 invites a piece, plus my buddy and I sent a ton of them back and forth back from when they used to give you 100 invites at a time. Bottom line is I have over a thousand invites ready to go.

I don't need another email account, but maybe I'll try out some of the other features of gmail.

Oh rly? I think I might have a few contacts willing to give you all the email you could ever hope to read, but I will only forward your address to them if you promise not to make fun of their grammar and spelling skills.

Gmail is nice. I've only got two wishes:

1.) Figure out some way to speed up the loading. The AJAX is really nifty, but it always hangs up for a while right after logging in.

2.) Give me PINE via Telnet or SSH! I know it's supposed to be ad-supported, and I know I can set up a PINE client to download my emails locally via POP3, but you have not lived email-wise until you've enjoyed the speed and convenience of telnetting into a remote client, checking your email, and being gone before you would've even logged in with a web-based interface. I think my best times were under 10 seconds.
