"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Team Sponsors Whose Jerseys You'd Never Wear

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. So I came across this article (http://www.davitamon-lotto.be/engels/weergeven_items_individueel.php?id=447) about team Predictor-Lotto's new jerseys... Ok... Who would want to be cruising about in advertising for a home pregnancy test?
And there's this random woman in the photos... Isn't this fellow glad to know she's not pregnant!

And tangentially related, I was out in Canada for a week or so at the start of January and, in a grocery store, came across a bottle of Gerolsteiner water - I'd never known what Gerolsteiner was before. Needless to say, I acquired a bottle of overpriced sparkling water. It was good though... sort of like Perrier, but softer. I kept the bottle.

I love our sponsors and sponsors of cycling in general. I don't care what the business is

Certainly. But I imagine you might be somewhat more inclined to wear a jersey with the logo of a pleasant sparkling water or a nice educational cable channel rather than a home pregnancy test...

I think one of my favorite kits now to be CSC. A2R:AG2R is pretty cool too. If I could ever qualify as a top pro; I'd choose my team not by jersey colors, but by which team leader is inspiring . Suspect I'd choose whatever team Boonen is on. To have to work for the team leader , you'd have to be totally loyal. It would be a life's dream to be able to ride with the pro's for one ,two years . Then write a book about it, like Michael Berry did with his 'Inside the Postal Bus."
This post could also qualify under 'needed career changes.'
Which team leader would others choose.? Glad Telecom has no leaders to admire. Would hate to have to wear a pink jersey.

If they were paying me I'd wear team kit sponsored by Summers Eve, in hot pink. This, of course, would mean I was fast enough to be on a pro team and could lay down some pain. Winning makes any kit look good, just ask Cippo.

I guess I would care if I was sponsored by Lifetime or the Oxygen networks. :p Not really. We have some obscure sponsors of our team, like my business.
I wonder what the "team deal" is for the pregnancy test?

+1. Pay me to ride for a living and I'll wear whatever the hell you want me to.

If that pic is any indication, it looks like the team was looking to save money. Dude looks like he'd have a really tough time making anyone need a pregnancy test.

YOu'd note the placement of the dude's right hand. Not quite an Arni grop, but close. And the happy faces. Maybe she passed the predictor test results. ?

Actually, would you? This raises a tangential question; Ifyou were good enough to get a contract, riding as a domestique on a mid tier pro team would you do it? Not sure I would. friggin hard way to earn $40,000 a year.
(I'd apologize for the threadjack, but I don't see a big loss in the diversion.)

For the experience of getting on the bus, I would . Heck yah. Includes food and lodging right. My training, at best I'd expect to be a domestique. But, then maybe should we stumble on the magic genie in the bottle; maybe, we all could win the tour de France. And one of my three wishes from the genie. I would not get hurt and never feel the pain a pro is supposed to adopt to.

Yeah at that kind of money I'd agree, triple it and I'm in. A few months ago there was a great article by Johnathan Vaughters about the TIAA-CREF team and a race in Europe. The guy they had set for a good result crashed, the condition were pretty miserable, cold, rain, etc. He finished the stage, with his leg and back just shredded from the road rash. I started thinking, man this guys making maybe 50k a year, that's a hard way to make a little scratch. Then again if I were making 50k a year at 22 years of age that's pretty good money at 45 I'm not so sure!

they dont have to wear pink, different colors are always up for grabs(white, yellow, green etc. etc. etc. and the two just as bad: different pink and polka). I find the salmon colored kits much less revolting than cippo's zebra kit
The Amgen Tour of CA jerseys seem like a PR debacle just teetering on the edge.
On a side note, the irony of 'south Nascar rednecks sporting Viagra gear is off the charts.

I think I'd actually buy that jersey and get a boom box and play 'Smells like Teen Spirit' by Nirvana over and over while riding.

Man oh man, if I win the lottery are you going to regret saying that. ;-)

Tour Down Under was on TV last week. Those Predictor-Lotto jerseys are really bland - they don't stand out on the TV coverage at all.

I quite like the Predictor Lotto jersey actually, as well as Milram. Much nicer than the rubbish Navigators jersey.

oh, one more ugly as a red headed step child team kit:
I can confirm that they are just as ugly in real life. One thing though - the purple is easily noticeable in the peloton. Thats the point - to get the sponsors advertising noticed.
The old Panasonic team jerseys looked bland in the photos but really stood out on TV. The old green machine Superconfex jerseys were fugly but no other team at the time had similar kit so they were easy to spot. At the moment there are a number of teams in red-black-white combos or predominately blue kit that all look the friggin same. No good for a sponsor. Phonak had some of the ugliest jersies ever but they were easy to pick out on TV.
^
which panasonic jersey, the blue/white ones from the 80s, or the blue/yellow/red ones (ekimov/fondriest era) of the 90s?

The mid 80's ones. I've got a few old classics on video and they stand out on the TV like dogs bal... a sore thumb.
