Hey guys. I just bought a NOS Scapin frame circa 1990 or so. i was just wondering if any of you out there have any knowledge about Scapin bicycles. I have done a bit of research, and cant find much on them. its a small Italian maker, that supposedly makes nice road bikes. They have a sight with flashy flash at www.scapin.com. but they have little to no background info on older frames.
theres some images and info on the page

any help in this matter is greatly appricated! thanks.

I've had 2 Scapin's pass thru my hands on their way to friends, one of whom still has his. Both are earlier models, similar to the ones in this '83 catalog scan; http://bulgier.net/pics/bike/Catalogs/scapin83/ mark bulgier also has an '81 catalog in his site...they are a nicely made, classic handling Italian ride, one of hundreds of Italian marques that you don't see often, but are fine bikes nonetheless.
+1 on Unworthy1's analysis. I've owned one for 32 years. It was my preferred race frame, until I was told what I had to ride. Definitrely in my top 3, for classic, steel frames.

i have one too.. i'm building it up now..
very much like yours, although with different decals and internal cable routing
does yours also route the shift cable through the chainstay ?> very strange
it is the nicest frame i have.. the paint over chrome finish and the mitering in the bottom bracket are bbeautiful.. it has 'scapin' engraved all over the place.. o that's another thing; yours has campy dropouts while mine are marked scapin
what sort of info are you looking for ? have you tried contacting them ?

thanks for the info guys. yeah, the Scapin frame i have looks very similar to the one coelcanth posted. the rear shifter cable does seem to be routed through the chainstay. not really an internal routing, just a clean tunnel through. i am unclear as to how to hook a cable stop up to this part. perhaps someone has done this?
as far as info i am looking for, just some basics. was it hand made? by whom? maybe if i could pin down the year a little better. how many were made, what the serial number means? g6 62. seems like the 62 might just refer to the size. is g6 the model? what kind of components people generally had on these?
i also did send an email off to scapin, so hopefully some info will come that way too. i'll post anything here.
but yeah, i am pretty excited to throw some nice recent campy stuff on and get her on the road. i guess all this doesn't really matter much compared to the ride. but i'm oh so curious.

Hi Guys,
i'm a newb around here and just picked up a Scapin frame like the one posted above here with campagnolo brakes and gears on it.... i was wonderin if these bikes are still regarded as safe for usage (after the odd 25 years of service) and what it would be worth in good condition (which it is..). Hope to learn more from the pro's and users around here.
