Advocacy & Safety - How long have you been participating in charity events?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
For those that participate in charity events how long have you been doing so? Was it always a cycling event? Did it start out as something other then cycling, like March of Dimes & now you participate in cycling events?
I started when I was 7yrs old. From then to the age of about 19 it was non-cycling events. From 19 to present when I participate in charity events it is nothing but cycling events from now on.

Never have participated in any cycling events for charity.
But I do volunteer to speak at local schools to young kids that are troubled. Since I've gone thru just about everything a man can go thru and still live to talk about it; including growing up poor, trouble with the law, mental disorders, and prison. It's just the penance I pay for my previous life.

Charity exclusively or charity cycling events?

Cycling related, off and on for 30 years.

~56 years. In 1950 I went trick or treating for UNICEF.

I've done a few... but was later quite annoyed to find I was then perpetually on some mailing list... that apparently was connected to other lists.
No thanks. I prefer anonomous donations.

I've been doing organized rides where proceeds benefitted charities a little less than a year. I've never done the type of event where you recruit "sponsors" who donate based on your performance in the event.
