Maybe this should be posted on the vintage board, but this one seems more popular...

I am a complete novice to road bicycling, so please excuse my lack of knowledge.

Today, I bought a red "Puch" road bike from some yard sale for a very modest sum, in pretty good condition. It's got just a little bit of rust but it rides like a charm! I was wondering what the history of Puch bikes are if anyone knows, and if this company is well-respected, etc.

Oh yeah, it's got various parts such as Dia-Compe brakes, Avocet Model 1 foot saddles, some SunTour parts...

It's probably Austrian, and at least 25 years old. Puch is owned by the Austrian comany Steyer-Daimler, and they mase everything from bicyles, mopeds, etc, all the way up to large macinery. The Steyer air-cooled diesels are noted for longevity. I belive Puch bikes are no longer made.
