Road Cycling - How's this for gimmick saddles...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Yeah - that seat rail looks real comfortable!
Well I'm sold...
The SPONGY WONDER BIKE SEAT also allows for a generous amount of air circulation and therefore, unlike conventional bike seats, provides less opportunity for the growth of yeasts.

You know when you go to the doctors office and they put you in one of the examination rooms and after 15 minutes you get board and start looking through all the drawers and cabinets. That saddle looks like something you would find in one of the large bottom drawers. When you see it so many weird thoughts go through your mind trying to decide what they might use this medical apparatus for that you just go back and sit down and wait for the doctor.

I saw this one on a guy's bike about a year ago, not only is it short, it pivots from left to right. Supposedly easier on the hips.

the front part of the rail does not get in the way or present any danger.
I'm not buying that for one second.

Its all well and good saying these saddles are wierd... But has anyone actually tried them? They might be brilliant but we're too stuck with traditional saddles!!
We need to hear from people who have actually ridden these saddles.
I'll try it. If you pay for it ;)
Okay, so which one of these saddles is going to be the official saddle of Team Mannschaft?
One of the roadbikerider.com guys tested one and says he crashed because he couldn't steer it if I remember correctly.

Huh. Cures a medical problem that apparently doesn't exist:
"In the male rider, conventional bike seats place pressure on the rectal area, and this pressure has been linked to a host of prostate issues. Conventional bike seats also cause penile numbness, irritation of the urethra, and may cause impotency because the male rider's weight is being used against him to damage the internal pudendal artery in the perineum (the area between the rectum and genitals). In addition, single platform seats also contribute to the development of cysts on the tailbone. The SPONGY WONDER BIKE SEAT eliminates all of these problems. "

What the hell is this? The revisionist version of human anatomy?
And while repetitive trauma does contribute to pilonidal disease, it's from sitting in positions (car seats, chairs, etc.) where there's actual pressure placed on the coccygeal area.
If you're sitting on your bike in a way that puts pressure on your tailbone and/or rectum, you've got bigger problems than choice of saddle.

This is what my wife and I both ride. Very comfortable, actually. I'm very happy with mine. :) I rode a new bike from my LBS that had a nice Sella and I almost went back to get mt SaddleCo.

I'm a little on the heavy side at ~190 (all muscle of course :) ) and I sometimes bottom out on nasty potholes. In these case, the sides of the frame hit the inside of my thighs. This doesn't happen often though.
My wife has no complaints with the SaddleCo and she has tried so many different saddles from the Sella to the Terry.

One more thing is that SaddleCo does not recommend that anyone over 200lbs ride with this saddle.

Totally agree.
Looks like an attempt at an a$$ fairing with that little pad added to make it something other than a fairing for UCI purposes. Who would actually sit upright enough on a TT bike to use that cushion?

That spongy thing has a helluva nut grabber, doesn't it?
There was this guy Copernicus who was excommunicated for trying to convince people that the earth revolved around the sun. The church at the time thought it was a very ugly idea. The church was of the Aristotelean school of scientific thought which went something like: "Don't bother me with facts". I just love BF.

I got it! That thing in the back is intended to keep the cyclist properly perched upon his/her bike when going really, really fast. :D

My wife bought me one of these as a gift. Since it was a gift I was obligated to try it out so I put it on my commuter bike. I think that lasted a day, maybe two. I'd say they are dangerous AND uncomfortable. Sturdy as hell though. The danger comes from the steering issue, but I'm pretty sure you could adapt after a while. Recumbents, after all, have the same issue. The uncomfortable bit comes form the fact that you need a pretty upright position to ride it otherwise it really rubs the tendons under your glutes.
