so im gonna be finished with my masters program in DC in may, and was looking for a place kinda nearby to move to for a few months, as i didnt take a break between undergrad at UGA and my masters degree here. I was thinking about Charlottesville,VA, but wanted to know if anyone here has or does live there... im a biker, DO have a car, but prefer to bike it around. is this possible? also, would C-ville be a decent place to settle for a few months, get an easy job around town somewhere, pay less-expensive rent, meet some peeps, and generally take a load off? thanks for any and all suggestion or help~

My mom and Dad live just north of C-Ville. It's a nice town and has a great riding sceen. It's located in the foothills so its all rolling and you can get out to the blue ridge and do some serious climbing. If you race there is a good sceen there as well as in DC, Maryland, and Richmond. So it's really centrally located and ideal. I get up there probably about 4 times a year I know it's a nice place to visit but I am not sure about living there.

If you're just lookin' for a place to park for a few months, why not come a little further south and avoid the nasty winter weather? From Charlotte, NC, you have the Appalachian Mts about 2 hours away (with Mt. Mitchell, highest point east of the Mississippi), and the Atlantic beaches just 3.5-4 hours away. Lots of green, lots of MTB trails, lots of roadbiking, and ever-increasing numbers of bike lanes. Just something else to check out. :)

Plus, we have a nice TT season very nearby at Lowe's Motor Speedway, if that interests you. :)
