Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - accidentally overhauled my BMX freewheel

I have an ACS claws BMX freewheel on the flop side of my SSMTB hub. I never realized it before, but the guts of it are held together by a lockring (looks sort of like a BB lockring but with a smaller diameter). The lockring came off during a ride (it was on the flop side and not being used), but fortunately the dropout of my frame sort of held it in place, so no junk fell out. I was able to remove all the bearings, springs, and pawls and clean and lube the whole thing, without even having to remove the center part of it (the part that actually screws on the hub). Cool! I had it out this morning in the snow, and now it clicks like a new freewheel. I never even realized that you could take apart a SS freewheel but ACS freewheels are completely overhaulable. The suntour freewheel on the other side of my hub doesn't look like it can be taken apart.
Note: the lockring has two little holes in it and can be removed with a BB tool.

Good for you! Now you know how to service your freewheel. You are officially one step ahead of the game.

I forgot to ask the question associated with the post...
Has anyone else ever overhauled their SS freewheel? I've never even heard of anyone taking one apart, after more than a decade of BMXing. The ACS claw freewheel is the only one I've ever seen that can even be disassembled as far as I can tell.

yea, even cheapie freewheels can be overhauled. You usually just need an adjustable pin spanner. Keep the FW tight on the hub, undo the cover plate, degrease, regrease, reinstall cover plate, done.

The $75 White Industries freewheels had better be rebuildable (they are).

Freewheels are relatively cheap so most people chuck them out when something is wrong. And it's a pita to adjust the bearings from what I gather. (no locknut, you get to play with washers)
