Today I was aiming for a Metric Century (100km/62Mi) in 3hrs. Well I nailed that time with a wicked 2hrs 45mins.....I am stoked. It was a more technical course than my last century which I did in 3hrs 2mins 54secs exactly a month ago. More hills, longer hills etc. I nailed this thing! I even lead a breakaway because the second bunch....YES the SECOND bunch! was getting a bit slow and noone was taking over at the lead....so me and another dude sprinted from about 20 places back (I lead) and I took the lead. Then I let him lead for a while because he was fresher than me because he drafted behind whilst sprinting. (this all happened because we slowed enough for the 3rd bunch to catch!) and when we did that all the fresh riders that hadnt lead broke away and joined us.... and the group resorted and split back into 2 - I was very pleased. This was at the 40km mark.
At the 60km mark there was a bit of a tangle that I'm lucky i didnt get involved in, as it was on the flat in a tight bunch at nearly 50km/h (31mph).....couple near the front went down and i stopped because there was bike and rider in the way, and some guys went down behind me. Scary cause i was stuck in the middle!
A fun day out overall!
