When is everyone starting, by the way? I'm heading out of town around 4:30am and I guess (really) that I'll be hitting the starting line around 7:00ish. We really could just clog the starting line not allowing any other cyclists to leave until everyone finds each other. That a way, we can say "meet where the security guards drag your butt."
I imagine the starting crowd is going to be wacky and just about impossible to find people since it's hard to manuever with bikes in crowds. Phone's will help. I figured I'd just keep an eye out for people at rest stops.
Maybe we should all bring along helium filled balloons :)
Thank goodness you didnt suggest wierd stuff on our helmets! hmmmmm

I would like to start as early as we can..which I think is about 7am.
I hear that this ride is a mass start??? Is that correct or do they stagger the riders?
I would think a mass start would be a trampede!

They stagger a bunch at a time....but it is still a stampede until you get out of town....

Yes, well, meeting there would constitute a whole other kind of ride. :p
But back to the original topic, WHERE??????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, I'm OC and have to know these things. That or everyone just call me, which will do nothing but make me feel popular. :p

uh huh...i've heard that before!!!
If I get into a whose slower than me thing.... ME and Cali promised they would kick my butt!!

Hmmm. None of us really thought this BF thing through did we? We get our fancy-schmancy jerseys and yet we can't decide on where or how we'll meet to ride as one big BF constituency! I guess I'll just call out to every rider I pass, "YO! You BF?!" :D

I wont have my jersey until .... well not sure really.....so it looks like I will have to find you guys.

But I WILL have mine on!

I'll have my jersey on and I'll contribute to ME's ego and give her a ring. It'll probably be easier to meet people at the first sag stop. That way you're more likely to find people riding at a similar pace.

Even with 10,000 people there?
uhm.... NO! it doesn't work! WAY too many people... you are LUCKY to find anyone at the start! but that's just my experience from the past 2 years riding and year before that as a non-rider..... there are a LOT of people there!
used to be... at the school... you could try to meet outside the start area.... this year with the change.... i have NO clue how to tell you to meet up!
caligurl
02-06-07, 06:48 PM
Nonsense! I saw Cali and SirLance just fine.
lol..... ya.... at a ride of about 100 people.... vs 8000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we were supposed to go scope out the new start on sunday.... but SOMEONE wanted to watch some STUPID football game after our ride.... so we're winging the start/parking, too!

someone did that last year.... but she arrived late so it didn't end up working!!!!!
What if we agree to meet at the turn at the top of the first little hill? We leave town, turn towards the windmills then go over the highway and up the little hill. At the turn at the top of that hill, just cross the road so that you are seperated from all the people merely taking off clothes...

I vote you be the one BF member who IS taking off clothes. That could be our way of finding the group. Just look for a naked Extort on the side of the road at the the top of the little hill past the windmills. I love it! Great thinking, Phil! :D

Enough about where we meet up for the 5 minutes when we start...
Where do we meet up for the post-ride meal??? That's the real quality BF love time.

Are you volunteering to remove clothes and stand outside some restaurant? I'm just curious...:p

Perfect! (minus the naked extort part) Meeting at the top of the hill ensures most people will be there before I will and there will be a sizeable group to notice.

this super lurker thinks it would be cool to see/meet some of the others who I am always reading about or whatever. why not? or is there any partying going on the night before? i was thinking about the village Pub downtown. Super lax environment. nothing like being extra dehidrated the day of a century

Village Pub ... I may stop in for a few cold ones. I am getting to P.S. around noon, so I can lay around and do NOTHING !
I figure that we would meet between 8:00 and 8:30... it cannot take more than an hour to get there right?

so I knew that I was in trouble already...
How about Las Casuelas Terraza (http://www.lascasuelasterraza.com/menus.html) for dinner on Saturday?

Do you have an address for the CPK?

I'll let you know tonight how long it takes to get there. Last year just as I reached the top of that little hill I got out of the saddle to pedal and my crank sheared off.  End of ride.  My polar readout on my computer at home has the elapsed time, mileage, avg speed etc to that point.

So...hmmm.
Are we meeting at:
1. CPK at 6:45am? (I doubt I'll be there in time, but I'll catch you guys on the route...or not, in which case I'll catch you after at the restaurant that Phil suggested for dinner)
2. At the top of the little hill past the windmills? (without a naked Extort...all of you who didn't like that idea are party poopers! :p )
3. Just along the route but for sure after for din-din at Las Casuelas Terraza? :D

I'll be at #1 and check #2 as I go by. I'll also keep an eye out at rest stops along the way. I'm out for #3 since I'm staying with an old friend I haven't seen in a while and we have dinner plans. That makes me a double party pooper.

My guess is that CPK will be out of control crowded. I've already spoken with 3 or 4 different friends who we're meeting in P.S. that weekend and they ALL suggested dinner at CPK!

Okay
CPK @ 6:45 -- I will definitly try to be there.
Top of the hill w/Naked xtort -- I'll be there with not naked, but my bike will be naked.
Las Casuelas Terraza -- Absolutely! Third year in a row I think, the food is awesome and the margaritas are even better.
BTW For you Garmin Edge 305 users Fernando Maldonado of OCRebels has created a course of the Tour de Palm Springs that you can upload to you Edge 305. You can find it on his Cycling Page (http://www.fernandomaldonado.com/CYCLING.HTML)

Getting geared up for this one. I put my 25 Gatorskins on in place of my wearing 23 Grand Prix 3000 tires in anticipation of the rough roads and minimal climbing.
The roads are ROUGH in P.S.

Good choice. Last year I witnessed many flats where multiple riders had flatted at the same time. As of now the weather forecast for Saturday is Mostly Cloudy-High 75. It is always cold in the morning until the sun comes up over the mountains then watch the striptease acts begin. I will dress light and gut out the cold start. Thirty minutes into the ride you will feel just fine.
BTW If you see me riding please don’t call out asking me if I am a BF. Say Bike Forum okay?

I don't get it. BF? What's so bad with calling someone a BF? I've even called people BFFs before, but just being stupid. But BF is not dirty or bad. Unless you guys really do dwell deeper in the gutter than I do. :p

Okay, you can call out “Are you a BFer”? Butt don’t be surprised if I wink back at you.
