Well I just made my reservations for Friday and Saturday night. I was just wondering who was going to be attending. My wife is going to ride with me so we will be riding at a very leisurely pace. We are doing the 55 mile ride, since my son Gabriel won't be able to do it this year :( (let's just say it's his own fault). I was thinking if we had enough people we could meet somewhere for dinner (either night). I am not familiar with the area so if anyone would like organize something just post here.
John
I am hopefully meeting up with a friend from the TE Board and my buds from San Diego and doing the 55. I'm driving in the morning of and leaving that afternoon after the ride. I'll probably be wearing my BCI jersey so look for me!!!!

I'm on the fence with this one since it is one week in advance of Butterfield. I could ride it leisurely, but 100 miles the week before 200 may be asking for it (any BF experts want to weigh in??). However, the thought of riding with a big BF group and dinner after in PS is just too tempting! So, I may be coming...:D

I think you can do it, just take it easy for the rest of the week. Last year before the Eastern Sierra I rode up/down Palomar twice, I think it was 80 miles and about 8500 feet. The double wasn't a problem at all.

I signed up for this one yesterday. Don't have any reservations yet but, will probably try to spend Friday night somewhere in PS. We meet somewhere for dinner. The all you can eat buffets at the casino's are pretty good :)

I'm carpooling with someone, Volty...:o That ALWAYS helps! Look it, I'd LOVE to do Borrego, but it is far, far, far away in a land and time when dinosaurs ruled the earth...:p :D

Um...yeah. You're EXTORT's friend. You nor he have nerves in your body. But thank you for the advice. ;) :p :D
P.S. I suspect I'll get talked into it. Someone says, "Ride," and I say "how far?"
I'll be there... now I just need to figure out the sleeping portion...
Las Casuelas Terraza is our general place for post event gathering... they did not care that we were in biking clothes and they served us a bunch of beer, margaritas and tequila!

Didn't you ride GMR the day after you road the Stagecoach century? I think I hear someone sandbagging..:D

I'm most likely going to be scratching this one off my list of "to do's" and just doing something solo, cheaper, and closer.

Undecided. You?
Undecided. You?
This is truly a fun ride for us. I am riding with my wife so we are going to do the 55 mile ride at a much slower pace than I normally ride. I am just looking to have a weekend away from work.

Hey you! It's Scott!
I've been out of the loop a bit with the holidays. Just started riding again two weeks ago. Had a lump on my back removed today so I'll be back in the saddle Thur or so. I'm gonna bypass P.S. and do Solvang March 10th. I'm also shooting for Davis in May for my first Double! Kinda freaked out, but I'll just keep peddling.
Where's Butterfield. i'll Google it.
Anyway hun..... Just sayin Hi!

Not only booking up quickly, but many will require a two night minimum stay.

Yeah..that was hardest part I had...the 2 night stay....you would think they would be aware of the many people coming into town and make an expection for this weekend...I wonder how many rooms stay empty because of this? But maybe they will do one nite when they have extra rooms?? But it would be last minute I imagine...
We are staying at the http://www.doralpalmsprings.com/ it a little outside but I figured we ride to the start it's only five miles away http://www.google.com/maps?saddr=67967+Vista+Chino,+Cathedral+City,+CA+92234&daddr=401+South+Pavilion+Way,+Palm+Springs,+CA&f=l&sll=33.84477,-116.475989&sspn=0.023917,0.054245&ie=UTF8&om=1&z=14
you should give them a call maybe they are not requiring a 2 night minimum.

I think throughout most of the year they don't require a 2 night minimum, it's only because of the ride they are requiring the 2 night minimum.

you know... almost none of you live so far that it's not driveable to the ride that morning.... we live an hour beyond palm springs and we've driven to san diego (alpine and stagecoach rides) and as far north as venturs (or farther) (cool breeze, 3 harbors, heartbreak) and we never spend the night! so don't think you have to waste the money on an expensive hotel room! and anyone in between those two are even closer!!!! it's totally doable/driveable!!!!
just a thought...... cuz some of those rooms are EXPENSIVE! (that doral one was almost $200 a night! YIKES!!!!! http://www.smileycons.com/img/emotions/218.gif)

Well, I can always drag my butt out of bed at 4:30am.
Heck, I did it for Brandy's ride, so I guess I can do it for this one.
Although staying near a casino has its appeal...

lol.... ok.... 4:00 is late... you're lucky! i've gotten up at 12:30 a.m. to get to rides (ok... granted for whatever reason it takes me 2 hours to get myself ready to leave even when i'm packed the night before...... UGH!) i'll be getting up at 4 to do the MTB at aliso this weekend! i got up at 2 for both stagecoach and borrego!!!!
(so no sympathy from me for a 4:00 wake up... plus that's my normal get up to work out time anyways!)

The reason I chose this Hotel was so we could make it a Valentine's Day get away. They have a spas there so I got my wife the massage and whatever else the do in those things pass as gift. It is rare that my wife and I get weekend alone, having a 9 year old tends to make it difficult.

Well, as I don't drink, can't really comment on that part however last August my wife and I had dinner plans with some friends on a Friday night. We didn't get home until after midnight, but I was up by 5 to do the drive to the Cool Breeze Century 35 minutes away from here. I had a great day and averaged faster than the year before.
Sheldon
I've done the century several times and each time I got up and drove in the same morning and then drove home after having a nice dinner. It's just a little over an hour from Tustin to the start of the ride. Last time I left at 6 (my buddy was running late - I usually leave around 5:15 - 5:30)- got there just after 7, checked in and was riding by 7:30. Finished, cleaned up - had a nice meal out and was on the road and home by 8pm. It's no worse (actually better than) driving up to Cool Breeze which I've done the morning of as well. I'm cheap can't afford the hotel room plus I rather sleep in my own bed. Of course, I miss all the partying the night before... well not ready. I rather be rested and have a good ride.

I ended up paying over $200 per night for a two night stay at a hotel I've never been to. But we'll make it into a mini vacation by hitting some local restaurants, hanging out at by the pool, and maybe even tramming up to the snow.

I used to actually enjoy getting up super early and driving at those hours. I would listen to Art Bell or George Nori, it was driving home that sucked.

Aside from the 79 on the way there, I liked the drive there and back. And you gotta love the iPod.

I'm going out for both Friday and Sat night...and will probably be hitting the bars for beer both nights :D Got a room at the Royal Sun which is about 1.5 miles from the start. I signed up for the century, but may switch to the 55 mile route since I have a couple friends riding that one on their mountain bikes. See, that is my master plan to make myself feel really fast - drop the friends on mountain bikes, lol.
