Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Funny info sent with my Surly cog

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Just got my new Surly cog in the mail.
It came with a small page of information/instructions/disclaimers stapled inside the packaging.
This is the usual sort of thing that I would not even glance at. (How much instruction does one need to twist it on a hub?) But for some reason, I read it.
I don't want to spoil the laughs, so I won't repeat what it said, but I HIGHLY recommend that if you get one to make sure to read it through from beginning to end.

Next thing you know there will be Surly cogs in Christmas crackers. Was it the dingle cog?

I give it 4.5 on 10. Not actually funny, but quite funny compared to normal legal disclaimers.

If you screwed up and broke your bag as a result of your own action...we can still help. Give us a call and let us know what happened. If your story is sufficiently ridiculous you may qualify for a free repair.
I always liked this part of the Chrome warranty. Makes them seem like pretty legit dudes.
ok, so what's the funny bit? seemed like some pretty standard instructions, if a bit cheeky.

If normal legal disclaimer and instructions lack anything these days, it's cheek. I like it.

I worked for a while in a pro-audio consultancy. The equipment manufacturer Rane used to periodically issue spoof spec sheets, which were very funny, at least to someone in the industry. You may get a laugh out of it. My father used to review products for Studio Sound, and he wrote two reviews of this, the Pseudo Acoustic Infector, one as if it was a deadly serious product, the other a spoof itself. Sadly, neither was published, despite the fact that it referred to the item changing it's depth so that when you installed it in a rack, it was always slightly too deep to allow you to plug in the connectors.

Surly has redesigned their cogs in the last few years. Sheldon used to not recommend them. Now he says wait and see. I can't vouch for it yet (still in packaging). But it passes the eyeball test. We shall see. If it sucks, I will be sure to complain about it here.

That is awesome. Even EE's can get it!
My favorite part: Passive Resistance: Non-violent ohms

i've had a surly cog on one of my bikes for close to 3 years now, and though i don't ride it constantly, it's seen plenty of klicks and i've had no problems with it.
I've got one, and it's just fine.
